  10. The end of the wet dock crossing in Ipswich?published at 06:52 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

The new MP for Ipswich has vowed that one of his first tasks will be to divert the funding that was secured for a wet dock crossing in Ipswich, to building a northern bypass for the town instead.

    Sandy Martin

Sandy Martin said he wanted to get the river crossing scrapped: "On Monday I will be contacting the Department for Transport and I will be setting up a meeting with an official to discuss how we can get that pledged £100m moved."

A firm run by award-winning architect Lord Norman Foster was chosen earlier this year to design a new bridge in Ipswich.

Foster + Partners have already worked in the town, creating the Willis building.

  11. Waveney MP 'greatly humbled'published at 06:48 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

Peter Aldous, who has been re-elected for the Waveney constituency, gaining 6,500 more votes than he did in 2015, said: "I'm greatly humbled, actually, for the trust that the Waveney constituency have put in me.

"It's a tremendous honour and I'm indebted to them."

    Peter Aldous

Mr Aldous put his success in part to the fact he has a "very good" team: "We've very much sought to address the issues and concerns that people have here locally.

"Infrastructure is a very important thing. The funding is in place for the third crossing of Lake Lothing, there's also a flood defence scheme in Lowestoft."

  12. East analysis: A night that belonged to Labourpublished at 06:29 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    Deborah McGurran
    BBC East political editor

It has been a shocking night for the Conservatives in this region while Labour celebrated three gains across the East.

The Liberal Democrats held on to their only seat but UKIP failed in their bid to regain Clacton.

Labour wrestled Peterborough, Ipswich and Bedford from the Conservatives and returned thumping majorities in Luton North and Norwich South, where Clive Lewis's majority more than doubled.

Labour's biggest increase was in Cambridge, where MP Daniel Zeichner in Cambridge took his majority from about 600 to 12,500.

The Conservatives' high point was regaining Clacton, but elsewhere majorities were reduced across the board and they failed to take North Norfolk from the Liberal Democrats. Despite a concerted campaign by the Conservatives to take the seat, Norman Lamb held on with only a slightly reduced majority.

Elsewhere, it was not a good night for the Liberal Democrats, with both Bob Russell, in Colchester, and Julian Huppert, in Cambridge, failing to regain seats they once held.

UKIP's share of the vote has dropped by 14% across the region and the Liberal Democrats stayed stubbornly flat on 7%. Although the Conservatives' vote share did increase by 6%, it was overtaken by Labour who increased their share by 11%.

The map of the East remains resolutely blue, but the night definitely belonged to Labour.

  13. MP can't see May standing down immediatelypublished at 06:25 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

The re-elected MP for Central Suffolk & North Ipswich says he can't see Theresa May stepping down as prime minister.

    Dan Poulter

With a hung Parliament looming, Dan Poulter said: "At the moment Theresa May is our leader, and the prime minister and I can't see that position changing in the immediate future.

"When we're about to go into those Brexit negotiations it's important we have a degree of stability during that time, particularly when those negotiations begin."

  16. 'Terror at the forefront of voters' minds'published at 05:51 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

James Cartlidge, who's been re-elected as MP for South Suffolk, says one subject dominated the last days of the campaign: "The impact of the terror attack.

"People were very worried, lots of questions about security and about people coming into the United Kingdom.

"I've tried to reassure voters that whatever else happens in politics the government will always do its best to try and intercept these attacks, and actually I do think we've got to wait for these cases to be reviewed before we make knee-jerk reactions."

    James Cartlidge

From the political point of view, Mr Cartlidge said he found the night "quite positive" for his party but conceded that if the exit poll was borne out "it would not be an optimal result for us".

  17. MP thanks constituents for putting their faith in herpublished at 05:25 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

Jo Churchill, who has retained her Bury St Edmunds seat, thanked "all the constituents who have once again put their faith in me to go back to Westminster to carry on to fight and to deliver the best for those of us right across the Bury St Edmunds constituency".

    Jo Churchill

Ms Churchill described her constituency as "very diverse", saying it has "different issues that come to the fore" and that she is "very, very grateful to have been returned".

She wouldn't be drawn, though, on whether there is likely to be a hung Parliament, saying "we've got a long way to go [before all the votes are counted]".

He also thanked the voters of west Suffolk, and continued: "I've worked hard these past seven years, to deliver right across west Suffolk and we've seen unemployment at record low levels.

"We've had more investment and I hope I've provided a strong voice in Westminster on a positive local agenda.

"And on that positive local agenda, we're going to deliver the cinema for Newmarket that I've promised.

"Now I want to turn and look forward and I hope that I can deliver for west Suffolk in the next Parliament too."
