    An unusual question, for sure.

    But Bill Flynn, the managing director of Mildenhall removals firm Safepac, has an answer.

    Half of the company's business involves moving American "members" - the term given to service families - back and forth across "the pond".

    Each year they handle some 2,000 US house shipments.

    Almost without fail, the average family's possessions weighs 4,000kg.

    "Service families are so used to moving, the old adage that moving house being the most stressful thing you do in your life doesn't apply to them", says Mr Flynn, himself the son of a US airman.

    "We do everything you'd expect in a normal house move - we pack and wrap household possessions into crates, 10 crates to a container. We organise shipping them to America, where they can then face a couple of thousand miles by road."

    He says many of the airmen pop into their showroom for advice about negotiating the county's roads.

    As well as selling cars - nearly all automatic - to the Americans, Mr James's staff prepare US cars for the roads in the UK and for their MOTs, external.

    There's a lot of cloud about in the BBC Look East region this morning especially the further north you are, and where it it thickest we may get a light shower.

    As we get into the afternoon the cloud will thin and break bringing spells of sunshine.

    The last of any showers should quickly clear to leave a mainly dry night across the BBC East region with variable amounts of cloud and light winds.

    Most places staying in double figures overnight with temperatures no lower than 11C (52F).

    Any showers will be very isolated and mainly in the north of the region accompanied by light winds.

  9. Search of Lowestoft pond by emergency services endspublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service has confirmed officers have been stood down from a search of a pond in the Normanston area of Lowestoft.

    A spokesman said a search by boat had been made of the water, off Kirby Cane Walk, but a woman was accounted for and the inquiry had ended.

    Police or fire services said there did not appear to be a child involved.

    A nine-year-old football fan has recreated the home of his favourite club in Lego.

    Joe, who lives in Crawley in Sussex, decided to build a tribute to Portman Road, home of Ipswich Town FC, using about 8,000 bricks.

    Dad Phil Bryant's own love affair with the club started in the late '70s during the Bobby Robson era.

    "Both my kids follow Ipswich now - I have ruined their lives," he said.

  11. Emergency services searching for 'woman and child' at Lowestoft pondpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 3 July 2017
    Breaking

    Police, fire and rescue crews, ambulance and air ambulance are in Lowestoft following reports a woman and a child had disappeared into a body of water in the Normanston area.

    The emergency services were called to Kirby Cane Walk at about 16:00.

    Delays to a £19.5bn project for a new nuclear power station in Somerset have cast further doubt on plans for a third reactor for Sizewell in Suffolk.

    The cost of Hinkley C in the south west has risen by £1.5bn.

    French energy company EDF has also warned the project is at risk of being delayed by 15 months.

    It's always been agreed Hinkley would be built before any work at Sizewell C (artist's impression above) got under way.

    Thousands of people descended on Christchurch Park in Ipswich for a special celebration of music on Sunday.

    Initial estimates from the borough council are that 35-38,000 attended the free Ipswich Music Day.

  17. 'Ed Sheeran' bribe bolsters fun runpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    A parkrun organiser bribed volunteers to sign up as stewards with the promise of an "Ed Sheeran-like" performance.

    Postman Simon Goldsmith, 43, needed 13 stewards or said he might need to call off Saturday's Park Run at Kesgrave near Ipswich, external.

    With one week to go, and not enough safety stewards to marshal hundreds of runners, Mr Goldsmith was watching Suffolk singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran performing at Glastonbury when inspiration came calling.

    "It gave me an ill-advised idea," he admitted, before promising to perform at the pre-run briefing "in the style of 'our very own Ed' with a loop pedal and rubbish guitar" if people came forward.

    They did, so he was forced to go through with his "ill-advised idea" in front of about 400 runners.

    Mr Goldsmith's race briefing saw him ask if there were any tourists, pointing out runners from Kent, Devon and Hertfordshire.

    He then rapped the rules of the race, including running "with a dog on a short lead so your fellow runners you don't impede".

  18. Athletics: Bawdsey's Sealy seals gold for Belizepublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    Suffolk Olympian Katy Sealy has won a gold medal at the Central American Championships, external in Honduras.

    Katy represents Belize and took top spot on the podium in the heptathlon.

    The Bawdsey resident featured for Belize at the Olympic Games in Rio where she took part in the 100m hurdles.

  19. Darts: Wright beats King in Suffolk derbypublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    An East Anglian derby took place in Germany last night as Mendham's Peter Wright took on Ipswich-born Mervyn King at the European Darts Open, external in Leverkusen.

    Wright continued his excellent 2017 by beating King 6-2 and claiming the £25,000 prize money.

    That’s now Wright’s fourth European Tour title.

    It was a tricky day in the field for Suffolk's cricketers yesterday as they took on Hertfordshire on the first day of their Unicorns Championship match.

    Hertfordshire won the toss and chose to bat first at Copdock, making 328-9 from 90 overs.

    Tom Rash, who opened the bowling for Suffolk, admitted: "It's been tough today, tough work, but we got through it."

    Play has resumed for the second day of the three-day match and a short time ago Suffolk were 71-3.
