    The 10th Maverick Festival, external of Americana music attracted thousands of country, bluegrass, folk and blues fans back to rural Suffolk this weekend.

    BBC Suffolk was supporting the event and you can listen again to Stephen Foster's Drivetime show which came live from the Easton Farm Park site on Friday and included interviews and music from, among others, Police Dog Hogan (pictured), Brooks Williams and festival founder Paul Spencer.

    The festival has always been family-friendly, with all the permanent animal attractions, playground and play barn open at the visitor farm, but this year Nashville duo Chasing Summer, external also held a children's singalong and art workshop on Saturday morning:

    British guitar veteran Albert Lee closed proceedings on the outdoor stage on Saturday afternoon, with help from Maverick veteran BJ Cole on the pedal steel:

  2. Songwriter's Elena Baltacha song 'close to his heart'published at 11:32 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    We've reported on a single being released to raise money for the tennis foundation created in memory of the Ipswich-based former British number one Elena Baltacha.

    Baltacha set up an academy for youngsters, originally at Ipswich Sports Club, before her death from liver cancer in 2014.

    Alexander Joseph, who wrote the single which is available to download, external, told the BBC he knew Elena when they were on the junior tennis circuit.

    "To write a song about Elena Baltacha is very close to my heart," he said.

    "Tennis has done a lot for me, sending me around the world. To help the foundation which gives opportunities to youngsters is a no-brainer for me."

  4. Repairs to A14 near Bury St Edmundspublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    Repairs to the central reservation on part of the A14 near Bury St Edmunds are taking place after a crash in the early hours.

    A Mini hit the central reservation barriers and ended up in a ditch, while travelling westbound near junction 42 for Westley.

    The male driver wasn't seriously injured.

    Police will be helping Highways England with a rolling road block this morning as repairs are made to a 30-meter stretch of the barrier.

    A single has been released to raise money for the tennis foundation created in memory of the Ipswich-based former British number one Elena Baltacha.

    Baltacha set up an academy for youngsters at Ipswich Sports Club before her death from liver cancer in 2014.

    The single, called Never Gone, was written by Alexander Joseph, who knew Elena when they were on the junior tennis circuit. It will be available to download, external.

    Newmarket's Chris Haird is National Hot RodWorld Champion, external once again after an impressive performance in yesterday's final at Foxhall Stadium in Ipswich.

    After posting the quickest lap time in qualifying on Saturday, Haird produced a flawless performance on the famous oval, during which he was barely challenged as he regained the title.

    It's the third time he's been crowned champion.

    The Dean of St Edmundsbury is leaving the cathedral in Bury St Edmunds after seven years in charge.

    The Very Reverend Doctor Frances Ward, 57, will study for a PhD and finish a book, while her husband Peter - a retired paediatrician at the West Suffolk Hospital - trains to be a vicar himself.

    Her time hasn't been without controversy. In 2014 she wrote to former MP David Ruffley after he assaulted his partner.

    It was leaked to the press - and contributed to his decision to step down. But she says she doesn't regret being outspoken when it's mattered.

    The Right Reverend Martin Seeley, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, said: “Dean Frances has brought a tireless energy to strengthen the connections between the church and the world."

    Dean Frances (pictured with her husband) said: "I will leave St Edmundsbury Cathedral after seven years in beautiful Suffolk, having built close relationships across the county, diocese and within the congregation.

    "I move on to a new stage in my ministry with tremendous gratitude for the privilege of working with so many wonderful people, and also real sadness leaving Suffolk after so many years.

    "I know I leave the cathedral in good heart, ready for its onward pilgrimage, growing in God as it serves the diocese and county as a beacon of faith, hope and love in Suffolk."

    Changes to Ipswich's Park and Ride service come into force today.

    First Eastern Counties, external has taken over the contract from Ipswich Buses.

    Suffolk County Council originally planned to a make radical changes to Park and Ride with the loss of a dedicated service.

    But that idea was shelved and First Eastern Counties will take over all responsibility and operate without a subsidy.

    The only funding from the council will be £200,000 a year for the running of the two car parks at London Road and Martlesham.

    First Eastern Counties says it's confident of increasing usage with changes to fares.

    But the frequency will be reduced from every 12 minutes to every 15 minutes.

  9. Woman in critical condition after Ixworth crashpublished at 08:14 British Summer Time 3 July 2017

    A woman in her 60s was airlifted to hospital last night in a critical condition after a collision between a car and a motorbike at Ixworth near Bury St Edmunds.

    The A1088 was closed for five hours close to the A143 junction after the accident just after 19:30.

    Two others were also taken to hospital with less serious injuries.
