  1. Needham Market flood plans to be discussedpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Drop-in sessions are being held in Needham Market next week for residents to find out more about proposed flood risk management options for the town.

    The Environment Agency has been looking into ways of reducing the flood risk to homes and businesses in response to recent flooding incidents.

    The most recent flood was in May 2012, affecting nine properties. In 2014, the Crown Street flood wall, downstream of the footbridge, was reconstructed and raised slightly.

    The sessions will be held at the Community Centre on Monday, from 14:30 to 19:30.

    Two people sustained minor injuries when a BB gun was fired from an address in Sudbury earlier this afternoon.

    Officers called to Church Street at about 14:30 found multiple pellets in the road.

    The A131 Cross Street, at the junction with Walnut Tree Lane, was closed for a short while as police investigated the incident.

    The two victims did not require medical treatment.

    An 18-year-old man from Sudbury has been arrested.

    Ipswich Town midfielder Cole Skuse says he and his teammates are devastated for Luke Hyam (pictured), who is unlikely to be involved with the first team again this year following another injury problem.

    The 25-year-old missed all of last season, and underwent surgery again earlier this week to have scar tissue removed from one of his knees.

    "We really feel for him because he comes in and works hard every day but just seems to have setback after setback," Skuse said.

    "He's such a great lad. We just want him to get back on the mend and get his boots back on and have a good run with the team.

    "He's in the best of hands at the club with Matt Byard and Alex Chapman. They're great physios and they'll look after him as best that they can."

    If Ipswich Town continue to perform as they did at Leeds last weekend and against Sunderland on Tuesday, then midfielder Cole Skuse believes they could be contenders for at least the end of season play-offs.

    Although the Blues lost at Elland Road, their second-half performance earned plenty of plaudits, and the entertaining play continued in a 5-2 thumping of the Black Cats just a couple of days ago.

    "We'd love to play like that all the time," Skuse told us today. "It stands you in good stead for promotion if you play like that week in and week out.

    "However, it's a fact that you are going to have your off days and your bad patches.

    "We've just got to make sure that those bad patches are as short as possible and that we come out on top in more games."

    Ipswich Witches rider Rory Schlein has no problem with Sheffield Tigers being the favourites to win the first leg of their Championship, external play-off final at Owlerton tonight.

    The last time the two sides met in South Yorkshire was just a couple of weeks ago, with the home team winning 52-38.

    "It's been a long time since Ipswich won a championship and going in as underdogs is brilliant because everyone is picking Sheffield to win and I think that's great because if they lose they’ll feel even worse," Schlein told the club website, external.

    "We are going to treat it like any other meeting, the crowd will be buzzing but it’s a final and everyone will be putting it on the line."

    The second leg is at Foxhall Stadium on Saturday night.

    Ipswich Witches welcome back Cameron Heeps for tonight's trip to Sheffield Tigers in the first leg of the Championship, external play-off final.

    The Australian has been out of action for around a month with a shoulder injury.

    Director Chris Louis told BBC Suffolk: "A few people have said it's risky, with his first meeting back being the play-off final, but the gaffer Ritchie Hawkins has only let him back because he knows he's 100% fit.

    "He really is champing at the bit, he didn't enjoy watching the semi-finals and no-one is as keen as Cameron to do well for the Witches."

    The Witches will have Tom Bacon guesting for the injured Connor Mountain, while a rider replacement will be employed for Justin Sedgmen, who is also missing.

    A 20-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of rape in Ipswich has been released pending further inquiries.

    Officers were called shortly before 01:25 yesterday to reports that a 17-year-old girl had been raped in Gippeswyk Park, at about 00:30, by a person known to her.

    The victim is being supported by specialist trained officers.

    Anyone who was in the area between midnight and 01:00 and who may have information that will assist with inquiries, is asked to contact Suffolk Police.

    Workers at Ipswich Hospital are rallying outside the main entrance in a protest over their pay levels.

    They want to put pressure on the government to lift the 1% pay cap for workers in the public sector, saying they've lost out due to years of austerity.

    The government says it's up to the specific pay review bodies to make recommendations on any future pay increases.

  12. Meeting over free school transport provisionpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Councillors will later talk about plans to consult on changes to free school transport in Suffolk.

    The county council's cabinet agreed to go out to consultation on changes to which children would qualify for a free school bus .The move could mean 3,500 pupils would have to pay to get to school.

    The idea has been called in by the scrutiny committee.

    Suffolk County Council says it needs to clear a £3m annual overspend in the schools transport budget, and current provision is beyond its statutory requirements.

    Councillors from the Liberal Democrats, Green and Independent group demanded that the cabinet rethought its call on school transport.

    The scrutiny committee meets today to review the decision. If it agrees the decision was made following the correct process, it will stand - if not, it goes back to cabinet with recommendations.

    A lorry has overturned in Sheldrake Drive, Ipswich.

    Luckily no-one was injured, but a parked car was hit.

    The road is closed in both directions between Gannet Road and Dunlin Road.

    Two men are being questioned by police after a noxious substance was thrown in a woman's face.

    The victim, who's in her 30s, has temporarily lost the sight in one eye following the incident at the Glad Abbot pub in Bury St Edmunds at about 23:00 last Friday.

    Police believe she was targeted accidentally.

    Two 25-year-old males have been arrested on suspicion of GBH.

    We've got some fantastic news for you.. and what will almost certainly be the final birth of our 24-hour stint - little Ezekiel Wright.

    Here he is with his proud dad Andy. His mum Pam was taking a well-earned rest when we took this family photo.

    Andy said he was feeling a mixture of tiredness and happiness, but has already had skin-to-skin with his new son, the couple's third child.

    Because Ezekiel was sleeping and at total ease in his parents' arms, the midwife hadn't got round to weighing him when we spoke to him. That can only be a good sign.
