    Ipswich Town midfielder Kevin Bru is a surprise inclusion in tomorrow night's squad for the home game against Sunderland.

    The Mauritian was told he could leave in the summer and wasn't even given a squad number.

    Youngster Flynn Downes will miss out - he won’t be back until after the international break.

    Town boss Mick McCarthy has no new injury worries though:

    "No injuries, we've got one or two tired legs, that's for sure", he said.

  6. Signalling upgrade on rail linespublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 25 September 2017

    A new signalling system is to be installed on train lines in the Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft area.

    The work, which will see 66 new colour light LED signals, 22 power operated points, and a remote computer-based signalling control system replacing levers, is part of Network Rail's investment plans for railways.

    Level crossings that are currently operated by a crossing keeper will be replaced with barriers remotely controlled by a signaller using CCTV cameras.

    Network Rail says this will improve journey times and reduce the amount of time the barriers are down, meaning fewer delays and congestion for motorists.

    There'll be changes to rail services between Norwich and Lowestoft, and Norwich and Great Yarmouth for nine days from Saturday, 21 October until Monday, 30 October while the work is under way and passengers are advised to check before they travel.

    • Norwich - Lowestoft midweek: Peak services operating as normal from Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 10:00 and 16:00 - 19:00
    • Norwich - Lowestoft weekend: Rail replacement bus service for weekends of 21-23 October and 28-30 October, with train services suspended from late Friday until early Monday morning

    Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy was as pleased as anyone to see striker Joe Garner back on the scoresheet at Leeds United on Saturday.

    The 29-year-old made the scoreline 3-2 after 71 minutes, but unfortunately the Blues couldn't force an equaliser.

    It was his first goal in four games, and his fourth of the season.

    "He's been terrific," McCarthy said.

    "His all round performances have been great, so it's nice for him to score goals and you can see how he felt when he waved to the crowd - he's a favourite and so he should be."

  8. Corrie investigation 'isn't closed'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 25 September 2017

    Police say the investigation into the disappearance of RAF serviceman Corrie Mckeague "isn't closed, it's not finalised in any sense".

    Suffolk Police said they were working with the review team looking into the handling of the search to see what recommendations they may make.

    Mr Mckeague disappeared a year ago after a night out in Bury St Edmunds.

    Det Supt Katie Elliott (pictured during a previous interview) said: "It has been a very detailed investigation, there's still more to do, and we'll continue to do that to see if we can find the answers for Corrie's family.

    "At the moment, the information within the investigation all still seems to point to Corrie having been in the bin that was collected in the early hours of Saturday, 24 September and taken finally to Milton landfill site near Cambridge.

    "We haven't seen him leaving the 'horseshoe' area, we've identified all the witnesses that were in that area, none of them have seen anything suspicious or seen Corrie.

    "But we do keep an open mind.

    "That was the purpose of this weekend, to try and see if there's anybody else that has seen anything that could indicate that Corrie could be somewhere else, or could lead us to try and find out more information about what's happened to Corrie.

    "The bottom line is we haven't found Corrie yet and the investigation remains live.

    "We've got the review that's ongoing and that will assist us in identifying whether there are any other viable lines of inquiry that would help us understand what's happened to him, so we look forward to the review reporting to us next month."

    The film director behind The Child in Time, which was filmed around Shingle Street and shown on BBC1 last night, says using the county as a location was "money well spent".

    The drama starred Benedict Cumberbatch and Kelly McDonald in an adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel.

    In another county link, McEwan is a former pupil of the Woolverstone state boarding school (now Ipswich High School for Girls).

    Director Julian Farino says it was great to be in Suffolk: "You have beautiful light, you have beautiful sea, you have unusual landscape, it's distinct from other areas, the actual sense of space, and the unusualness of the atmosphere that we were able to capture in Suffolk.

    "You have to take a whole film crew out of London - it's money to put everyone up and to transport equipment, it's something we never gave up on."

    It's estimated the production brought more than £40,000 to the local economy.

  10. Bury St Edmunds relief road finally openspublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 25 September 2017

    A new £15m relief road for Bury St Edmunds has been offficially opened.

    The Eastern Relief Road, which was first announced seven years ago, links Skyliner Way in Moreton Hall to Junction 45 of the A14.

    The project was delayed because of legal discussions over a small piece of land at Sow Lane.

    Colin Noble, Conservative leader of Suffolk County Council, said: "There's 67 acres of new business park land and what we're hoping [is] over a period of time new businesses will come here, new factories will grow and open, and up to 15,000 jobs will be created."

    On the anniversary of the disappearance of her son, Corrie McKeague, Nicola Urquhart retraced his steps in Bury St Edmunds.

    Dozens of local people followed her and asked her about what happened.

    She says the community there is like no other.

    Ipswich Witches are through to the Championship Final, external after a 91-88 aggregate victory over Edinburgh Monarchs in their semi-final.

    Although the Suffolk side lost 48-41 in the Scottish capital on Friday night, their 50-40 success at Foxhall 24 hours earlier was enough to see them through.

    The win was sealed when Rory Schlein (pictured) won a last heat decider.

    "Rory Schlein was superb tonight and dragged us through," boss Ritchie Hawkins told the club website, external.

    "We are delighted to be in the final, but we will have to improve on these two meetings.

    "We have got the determination right and the will to win, but our performance will have to be a bit better if we are going to win the final."

    Since then the Wolf Pack have won three games in a row, including Saturday's 39-24 success at Barnstaple, when they ran in seven tries.

    Police say their "pod" which was placed in Bury St Edmunds for the Corrie Mckeague anniversary weekend, was "well attended".

    A spokesman said: "We will now look to assess the information we have been told to see if this establishes any new lines of inquiry for the investigation.

    "We are grateful and pass on our thanks to everyone who approached us over the weekend with information."

    Mildenhall Town, external were involved in the game of the day in the North Division, as they lost 6-4 at home to Tilbury.

    AFC Sudbury, external won for the fourth time in a row, seeing off Heybridge Swifts 3-2, while Bury Town, external beat Cheshunt 2-1.

    Ipswich Town, external boss Mick McCarthy had few complaints about his team's display in Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Championship leaders Leeds United.

    The match was settled by an unfortunate own goal from Blues goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski who dropped the ball over his goalline from a corner.

    "I'm bitterly disappointed that we've been beaten, but absolutely thrilled with the performance," McCarthy told BBC Suffolk Sport.

    "They started well which you would expect here. I thought the second half performance was different class, I thought we had one hand on the throat of them, and we just couldn't put them to bed.

    "Our player of the year for the last two seasons, and the most wonderful goalkeeper, has made a mistake - but it happens and I'll forgive him, as everybody should."

  17. Corrie search 'possibly the biggest in lowland and mountain rescue history'published at 08:34 British Summer Time 25 September 2017

    As the first anniversary passes of the disappearance of RAF Honington serviceman Corrie Mckeague, one of the organisations involved in his search has said he thinks it's been one of the biggest searches ever.

    The airman was last seen on 24 September 2016 during a night out in Bury St Edmunds.

    Andy King, from Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue, external, said: "Nobody in lowland [rescue], and there are 36 lowland teams nationally, has ever done anything remotely close to this.

    "It's probably the biggest search, man-hour-wise, that's possibly taken place in lowland and mountain rescue history."

    A lot of Ipswich Town, external fans were stunned when goalscorer David McGoldrick was withdrawn towards the end of Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Leeds United.

    With the Blues searching for an equaliser, the 29-year-old, who had been his side's stand-out performer, made way for Martyn Waghorn after 85 minutes.

    "We had Waggy on the bench and Didsy had run his race, he'd scored his goal and he might've had another one, but it was just for some fresh legs," boss Mick McCarthy told me afterwards.

    "You might say 'why Didsy?'. Well, Freddie [Sears] has gone on, Bersant [Celina] has gone on and [Joe] Garner's always going to make it hard for everyone up front."
