    A sponsored paddle board crossing of the English Channel from England to France by two men from Norfolk has raised £5,135 for the Sheringham RNLI lifeboat.

    Charlie Graham-Wood and Lewis Gray made the exhausting 23-mile (37km) crossing from Dungeness to Boulogne in almost perfect paddle boarding weather in May.

    This was in contrast to a planned attempt in 2017 which had to be abandoned because of storms.

    But this gave the pair time to build up their fitness over the winter.

    Three silhouettes of British soldiers have appeared in an Ipswich park ahead of next month's centenary of the end of World War One.

    The life-sized silhouettes of "Tommies" - the nickname for British soldiers - have been placed in Christchurch Park to remind people of the sacrifice made by their forefathers a century ago.

    A further two will appear in the town's cemeteries.

    They are part of the There But Not There, external project.

    Alasdair Ross, armed forces champion for Ipswich Borough Council, external, said the sculptures were "clever" and "very good in helping educate our younger people about the sacrifice".

    The Pink Floyd star is on tour in Brazil and took the opportunity to denounce the leading candidate in October’s presidential election.

    At Waters' show at Sao Paulo's Allianz Parque stadium on Tuesday night, the stage backdrop showed the words “Resist neo-fascism', under which was a list of names including far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro (below).

    The former army captain is anti-abortion and pro-gun and has made controversial statements about the LGTB community and women.

    To a mixed reaction from the 40,000 fans in attendance, Waters said: "I know it's none of my business, except that by and large I am against the resurgence of fascism and as a believer in human rights and the right to peaceful protest.

    "I would prefer not to live under someone who believes military dictatorship is a good thing."
