Gary Holden, 47, said he had been waiting for a taxi home from a party at about 00:30 on 7 October when he was punched by a stranger.
He awoke in Hinchingbrooke Hospital with no recollection of what happened, he told police.
"I have had to rely on my partner to let me know what happened as I can’t remember anything from the night, only waking up in hospital," he said.
"It hasn’t just been the physical pain that has affected me, I have no idea who has done this and my partner now worries every time I leave the house."
Police are appealing for witnesses.
