Ryan Fraser's introduction already looks to have kicked Bournemouth into a higher gear - the "Wee Man" speeding down the right wing with the protection of Marc Pugh behind him at wing-back.

It took a long time for this game to wake up - but Junior Stanislas opened the scoring, just as he did in the last round here against Blackburn.

There seemed to be little danger for Norwich when the ex-Burnley man picked the ball up on the left, but Canaries captain Alex Tettey was left mesmerised by Stanislas' quick feet and there was no hope of VAR chalking off such a fine individual strike.

But the goal has also woken Norwich up - with keeper Artur Boruc and the width of the post ensuring the hosts reach half-time still in the lead.

This looks like a tactical switch from Eddie Howe - Marc Pugh has dropped back into the right wing-back role, with Jordon Ibe now on the left wing.

Apart from that early chance, Jermain Defoe has been largely starved of service - and just now, had to come back and win the ball in front of his own box.

As Steve Claridge pointed out earlier, getting past Jordon Ibe at wing-back could be Norwich's key to opening up the home defence - Onel Hernandez has got past him a couple of times without too much difficulty, but both times the cross has failed to pick out a team-mate.

Bournemouth have looked bright at times but are not playing with the same fluency in the final third that has been their hallmark in the Premier League this season with Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser in the forward line. Expect one or both to be introduced from the bench during the second half if this stalemate persists.

Junior Stanlislas feels he was unfairly brought down just now, 25 yards from goal - and "VAR, VAR" is jokingly chanted by some of the home fans behind that goal in the Ted MacDougall Stand.

As for the visiting Canaries, a good number have braved the considerable journey to Dorset - just a few small pockets of empty seats in the away section.

Bournemouth have lined up 3-4-3 with ex-Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe in the unfamiliar role of right wing-back in these early stages - home fans will hope he's involved more in an attacking capacity, as he was in the build-up to that Jermain Defoe chance.

Norwich's 4-5-1 has Dennis Srbeny as the lone ranger up front, supported by Felix Passlack and Onel Hernandez from wide positions.

VAR's first task tonight may be to determine why Bournemouth's red and black stripes are enough of a colour clash for Norwich to discard their traditional yellow and green in favour of their all-white away strip. That said, it does stand out well under the floodlights.

Bournemouth keep only three players from the starting XI which swept Fulham aside on Saturday - and it's three of their longest serving players who remain. Simon Francis, Steve Cook and Charlie Daniels all played for the Cherries back in their League One days.

There's rotation on both sides as Norwich also change eight (six of whom are on the bench) and retain three from the 1-0 win over Brentford - Christoph Zimmermann, Jamal Lewis and Alex Tettey,

It's rare for away fans to visit a stadium where a player regarded as one of their cult heroes has a stand named after him by another team - but Norwich's followers will do that tonight when they walk past the Ted MacDougall Stand on the way to the away seats in the East Stand, while the legendary striker also features in tonight's match programme.

MacDougall scored goals wherever he went - but is remembered fondest at Bournemouth and Norwich for his 1970s heroics. Having made his name here at Dean Court, he linked up with ex-Cherries manager John Bond for a second time at Norwich, where he was the old First Division's top scorer in 1975-76.
