Read MoreThe Orwell Bridge, which carries the A14 over the river south of Ipswich, is to close at 10:00 due to high winds.
Forecasters are predicting wind speeds of 50-55mph, conditions which trigger the road closure to prevent high-sided vehicles - primarily lorries heading to and from the Port of Felixstowe - being blown over.
Diversions will be in place using the A1156, A1189 and A1214 through Ipswich.
The winds are expected to continue until 14:00, although Highways England, external said it would reopen the bridge as soon as conditions allowed.
High winds have meant the bridge has been closed 12 times in the past five years, while transport planners are looking at alternative ways to keep traffic moving.
Network Rail says it is trying to rectify the fault and rescue trains that have been trapped.
