  1. The problem of beach litterpublished at 11:22 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

The South East is the third worst region in the country for beach litter, according to a new report.

The Marine Conservation Society looked at how the number of plastic bags on the country's beaches had changed, since the introduction of the 5p bag charge.

It's seen a drastic reduction in beach litter nationally, which they say is good news for marine wildlife.

But the South East still has more than 700 items of litter for every 100 metres of beach.

  17. Albion chief calls for government step in to resolve Southern strikepublished at 07:48 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    Claire Cottingham
    BBC Live reporter

Brighton and Hove Albion chief executive Paul Barber has urged the government and MPs to step in, external and resolve the ongoing rail dispute between Southern rail and the RMT.

Thousands of Albion and Aston Villa fans were left stranded on Friday night with "no warning" after Southern rail cancelled a handful of services from Falmer Station shortly before the final whistle.

The club say they didn't have time to put in an effective contingency plan and that there were reports of people sleeping rough at Brighton Station, having missed connections. Barker says safety is the real concern, and something needs to be done.

    Quote Message

Once again Southern have let us down, let down our supporters and the supporters of another club, and left the club's operations team to pick up the pieces. Where are the politicians and the government now?"

    Paul barber
    Quote Message

Where's the accountability to bring this organisation to account for the poor service to thousands of people in this city, week in week out? It's not just about 30,000 people coming to a football match, this dispute is having a devastating effect on people's lives."

    Quote Message

The reputation of Brighton and Hove is being severely damaged every week and it's time the politicians got more involved, started taking responsibility and represent their electorate. More importantly than the economic effects, there is an increasing risk that someone will get seriously hurt or worse."

Paul Barber, Brighton & Hove Albion chief executive
