    London terrorist Khalid Masood was a former economics student at the University of Sussex.

    The 52-year-old father killed four people including PC Keith Palmer outside the Houses of Parliament last week. He was at the university through the mid 90s using the name on his birth certificate, Adrian Elms.

  2. Burglars target tool storepublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 29 March 2017

    Burglars targeted a tool and equipment shop in Uckfield and stole professional power tools.

    The offenders broke into The Stores Dept on the Bellbrook Industrial Estate just before 19:25 BST on Sunday, forcing open shutters, activating an alarm and making off between three and four minutes later in a white Transit-style van.

    It's thought that there may have been a number of offenders, all wearing hooded tops or hats, head torches and gloves.

    Police want to speak to the man in this CCTV image in connection with the raid.

    More than 2,000 people in the South East were rescued by the RNLI last year. 

    Figures show the number of lifeboat launches are up by 13% on the year before.

    The charity's asking people to take more care at the coast and respect the water.

  6. Cash cuts 'threaten school standards', say MPspublished at 10:16 British Summer Time 29 March 2017

    The biggest school funding shortages in England since the 1990s are threatening to damage standards, says a report from MPs overseeing public spending.

    The cross-party Public Accounts Committee criticises "delusions" in government over the budget situation.

    Head teachers said the Department for Education had "buried its head in the sand" over the extent of financial problems.

    The Department for Education has said that funding is at record levels.

    School leaders have been protesting against funding cuts - with headteachers across Sussex sending a joint letter last week calling for a re-think on budget plans .

  8. Brighton attraction reopens after latest breakdownpublished at 09:14 British Summer Time 29 March 2017

    Brighton i360 and bandstand

    Brighton's i360 viewing tower will reopen today. 

    The multimillion-pound attraction has been plagued by technical problems since it launched last August.

    The latest breakdown was on Saturday evening, and it's been closed since then while technicians tried to discover the cause. 

    A spokesperson for the i360 confirmed the fault "has been resolved" and the "system fully tested".

    These early designs show the proposed permanent memorial to the Shoreham air crash.

    The memorial will honour the 11 men who died, the first responders who helped at the scene, and the community. 

    It'll consist of five different works and cost £180,000 to construct. 

    It's being funded by public bodies and local businesses.

    The RSPCA says there's been a sharp rise in the number of animal cruelty cases in Sussex and Kent in the last year.

    The charity investigated more than 2,200 allegations in East Sussex, up 13% on the year before. 

    Kent saw almost 5,500 complaints, up 3%. 

    Nationally the RSPCA says it received a call every 27 seconds.

    There's been a fire at a school in Billingshurst, West Sussex. 

    Fire crews spent most of yesterday evening at the Weald secondary school. 

    The leisure centre next door had to be evacuated. 

    It's thought the fire started in a ground floor classroom.
