    German war pilot Hugo Broch has wanted to fly in a Spitfire for as long as he can remember.

    At 95 years old he's done just that in the skies over Kent.

    A drone flying close to Gatwick Airport led to the closure of the runway and forced five flights to be diverted.

    An airport spokesman said the runway had been closed for two periods on Sunday - of nine and five minutes - after the drone was sighted.

    Easyjet said four of its flights were diverted, while British Airways said one aircraft was diverted to Bournemouth.

    Other flights were put into holding patterns as a precaution. Sussex Police is investigating.

    There are calls for facial recognition technology at ports including Newhaven to help prevent the use of fraudulent passports.

    The Reform think tank says the roll out of eGates would help to stop criminals trying to use false documents to smuggle people into the country.

    BBC Sussex has seen numerous sellers advertising passports for sale on the dark web.

    A new hospital ward has opened in Redhill for vulnerable elderly patients.

    The day ward at East Surrey Hospital, which is run by Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, is one of the first of its kind in England.

    Planning permission has been granted for a scheme to protect homes from flooding in Pagham, West Sussex.

    Large areas of the coastline have already been swallowed by the sea over the years.

    A newly-formed Community Interest Company says it has got the go-ahead to create a shingle island and spit at the harbour.

    It's hoped the work could be completed by the winter.
