    Part-time soldiers from Kent, Sussex and Surrey will be taking part in a live firing practice battle in the US state of Michigan.

    The reservists from the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment will be supported by the full range of American military hardware - including helicopters, heavy artillery, and fighter jets.

    The RNLI is urging people to "respect the water" this summer as part of a drowning prevention campaign.

    The charity says more people die in UK waters in August than any other month.

    There have been more than 100 incidents of drunk or disruptive passengers at Gatwick in four months.

    Sussex Police say they have also made 27 arrests between mid-April and the end of July.

    They say the incidents have mainly been on inbound flights.

    Airlines UK want it to become a criminal offence for passengers to consume alcohol purchased at the airport, on a plane, in an attempt to curb so-called air rage.

    But the Airport Operators Association says alcohol related incidents are still incredibly rare.

    People in Newick have been left with little or no water after a main burst in the early hours of this morning.

    The company says the main, which burst at about 05:00 BST, should be fixed by 10:30 BST.

    A man has been jailed for six months for dangerous driving on his scooter in Crawley.

    Saif Khan from Ealing, in west London, tailgated cars on the M23 and reached speeds of 100 mph.

    After leaving the motorway at junction 10, the 22-year-old jumped two red lights and drove on the wrong side of a dual carriageway before eventually crashing and breaking his hand.

  10. Sussex hospital trust improves but stays in special measurespublished at 06:14 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton

    An NHS trust is to remain in special measures despite an improvement in staffing levels contributing towards a better Care Quality Commission rating.

    Following an inspection in April, the overall rating for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust has been revised to Requires Improvement.

    The CQC praised a new self-rostering approach to medical cover in the Royal Sussex County Hospital's A&E unit.

    There was also increased consultant cover at the Princess Royal Hospital.

    However, the CQC said it was recommending that the trust should remain in special measures "for a further period".
