    A Sussex MP has recommended others in politics should relax more, by spending an hour in the bath every morning.

    Worthing East & Shoreham Conservative representative Tim Loughton said time in spent the baths helps to "cleanse the body and clear the mind", according to The Times.

    The co-chairman of the all-party parliamentary group on mindfulness was speaking at a conference exploring how meditation and greater self-awareness can improve the conduct of politics.

    He added: "One of the greatest causes of stress in the world was the invention of the shower."

    A pedestrian who died after suffering serious injuries from a collision with a van has been named as Stephen Smith.

    The family of Mr Smith, 49, of Trench Road, Tonbridge, Kent, have been informed.

    Police are still appealing for witnesses to the collision on Wednesday 27 September, on the A264 at Holtye Common, near East Grinstead.

    Mr Smith died on Thursday 12 October.

    Neglect by a care home contributed to the death of a severely autistic man who ate cigarette butts, a coroner's court has concluded.

    Anthony Dawson, 64, died at Ashmount care home in Epsom, Surrey, from an undetected gastric ulcer in May 2015.

    The jury at Woking Coroner's Court said the fact that a GP was not called when he appeared ill was a "gross failure".

    Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust said it accepted there were areas where its care was not up to standard.

    A female prison officer was attacked during a riot at HMP Lewes, it is reported.

    A Prison Service spokeswoman said "violence against our hardworking staff will never be tolerated", after The Argus published a story about a riot at the prison last week., external

    The spokeswoman added: "Staff successfully resolved two separate incidents that occurred on Tuesday 10 October, both involving a very small number of prisoners.

    “When incidents like this occur we will always work closely with the police to push for the strongest possible punishment.

    “Police investigations are now underway and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

    On Thursday, six men are to answer charges related to another disturbance at the same prison last year.
