  15. Golf club decision to be looked at againpublished at 12:02 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2018

The future of a golf club due to shut at the end of the month will be discussed again by councillors.

Large numbers of campaigners attended a specially-arranged meeting on the future of Deangate Ridge Golf Club in Hoo on Monday to hear Medway Council's regeneration, culture and environment overview and scrutiny committee assess its cabinet's decision to close the facility at the end of March.

Following campaigning from residents and three petitions attracting a total of nearly 4,000 signatures - mainly focusing on a perceived lack of consultation - Conservative members of the committee agreed to refer the decision back to cabinet.

Labour's four representatives on the panel abstained after their own motion to send the decision to full council for reconsideration was voted down.

If the decision is upheld, Deangate Ridge will close its doors to the public on 31 March.

The date of the cabinet meeting to discuss the matter is currently unknown.

Council officials insist there was "no legal duty" to consult on the proposed closure.

There have been further dog attacks on sheep at Cissbury Ring, near Worthing, to the frustration of police who say they've issued repeated warnings for dogs to be kept under control.

In the most recent, on Saturday, a ewe suffered such severe head injuries she had to be destroyed to end her suffering.

One of the attacks took place in a field where a farmer-led event highlighting the problems of sheep worrying took place just a week before, while a second occurred on the same day on the same farm.

The event was attended by dog owners who regularly exercise their pets in the area.

It is now the lambing season and across Sussex around 330,000 ewes are giving birth to lambs now and over the coming month.

We would like members of the public to report any sightings of dogs attacking flocks to Sussex Police by dialling 999.

    James Osman, Sussex NFU Adviser

Sgt Tom Carter, from Sussex Police, said he was "incredibly frustrated" the attacks were continuing.

"I'm incensed that dog owners are still letting their pets run loose among livestock and cause dreadful suffering to the sheep that they are savaging.

"One of these attacks happened only yards away from one of our signs warning about keeping dogs on a lead," he said.

  18. Brighton and Hove crackdown on dangerous school parkingpublished at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2018

    Sue Nicholson
    BBC News

    School road sign

Extra staff could be taken on to crack down on dangerous and inconsiderate parking outside schools in Brighton and Hove.

Forty-five schools in the city have approached the council saying they're fed up with drivers stopping on yellow lines and "keep clear" road markings.

Councillors will vote next Tuesday on whether to bring in three new enforcement officers and additional patrols to clampdown on offenders.

The council would also buy two new scooters to enable officers to respond more quickly to reported problems.

Currently two assigned enforcement officers have been visiting one school in the morning and one in the afternoon, but the additional resource will more than double their capability.

Funding for the extra officers would be paid for by penalty charge notice income, with 20% coming out of the parking services budget.
