Staff at a Tesco Express in West Sussex have been left shaken after an armed robbery on Sunday.

Two masked men entered the store in Finisterre Way, Littlehampton, at about 06:00 BST, Sussex Police said.

One of the men was carrying a knife, believed to be a machete, and demanded money and cigarettes.

Detective Sergeant Simon Smith said: “The two staff members were unhurt but they have been left very shaken by the incident."

He said the men arrived in a white van, driven by a third suspect, who remained in the vehicle.

The armed man was described as white, 6ft, of medium build, wearing a black bandana over his face, a black beanie hat and a dark-coloured hooded top.

The second man was described as white, slim, 5ft 8in, with blond hair, dark-coloured clothing and a white mask.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

Just 120 people have tickets to see the gig in the pod at 450ft above the city.

Two Brighton railway stations will be closed this weekend as the city's Pride festival takes centre stage.

Preston Park station, close to the main Pride venue, will be closed all day on Saturday, 4 August and again on Sunday.

But this year, following talks between the organisers and Sussex Police, London Road station will also shut from midday on Saturday until the end of Sunday.

A spokesman for Govia Thameslink Railway said: "The London Road closure is the first time for the event and is at the request of the organisers and local police.

"We close Preston Park every year... for safety reasons - the main event is so close to the station that there would otherwise be issues with passenger flows from the platforms."

Rail travellers will use Brighton's main station, which GTR says will be "extremely busy" during the weekend, with queuing systems likely to be in place. Passengers are urged to buy their tickets in advance.

Around 300,000 people watched last year's parade.

West Sussex County Council has reinforced its pledge to support the county's veterans by setting its sights on a Military Covenant gold award.

The authority, which signed a Military Community Covenant in July 2012, already holds a silver award in recognition of its efforts to aid ex-servicemen and women and their families.

At a County Hall meeting members voted unanimously in support of a proposal from Lt Cdr Noel Atkins (Con, Durrington & Salvington) to work towards the gold.

The councillor served in the Royal Naval Reserves for 20 years and was decorated by the Queen in 1980.

Among the tasks ahead is the development of more drop-in centres and breakfast clubs, which allow veterans to socialise and access any care they may need.

Southern Water are working to fix a burst water main, which has caused a sink hole to open on the A2 near Sittingbourne.

It is believed the pipe burst, near the junction of Playstool Road, Newington, was caused by the prolonged dry weather which led to the ground cracking.

A spokesman for the firm said: "We'd like to say sorry to householders in around 30 properties in the area who saw their water supplies affected by this.

"The burst has caused some subsidence in the road and we will be fixing this when our repair to the burst pipe is complete."
