    The Geordie Shore star beat Union J's George Shelley into second place.

    On being crowned jungle queen, she said: "It doesn't sound right. I think you have made a mistake."

    The 28-year-old from Wallsend has been the favourite for most of the series, winning over viewers with her gutsy attitude and funny one-liners.

  4. Police praise public for weather responsepublished at 14:24

    Northumbria police are thanking the public for the way they responded to severe weather and flooding in Northumberland at the weekend.

    Supt Peter Bent said: "It was an incredibly difficult weekend for everyone affected and we want to praise the community spirit that was shown. "Farmers offered their tractors for comfort, residents made our officers a hot drink and others offered spare rooms to those left stranded by the floods."

  7. Durham firefighters reveal busy weekend after stormpublished at 13:48

    County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service took almost 250 calls this weekend resulting in more than 200 emergency responses, the brigade has revealed.

    Flooding incidents and assisting with dangerous structures were the most prevalent incident type but firefighters also attended other incidents including fires, car crashes and medical emergencies.

    Although the River Tees burst its banks at Croft and the River Wear burst its banks in Durham the impact was not as significant as in previous years, the service said.

    Stuart Errington, acting chief fire officer, said: “I’m extremely proud of all of the work our crews, control staff and officers have carried out over the weekend."

    Cleveland Fire Brigade is advising residents in parts of Hartlepool to keep their windows closed as they continue to battle a blaze at a waste management plant.

    The fire started at Niramax on Windermere Road on Friday night.

    It's believed to have started in a grabber machine. 

    The fire brigade is advising people in the Foggy Furze, Belle View and Town Centre areas to keep their windows closed for the time being due to smoke form the site.

  16. Horse dies in Tyne floodspublished at 12:00

    A horse has died after being trapped in floodwater at Ovingham.

    The 24-year-old animal, called Mary Loo, was in a field when waters began to rise on Saturday.

    Several people tried to rescue her but the rapidly rising water made it impossible, a witness said.

  17. Berwick's Bronze wins football awardpublished at 11:48

    England and Manchester City defender Lucy Bronze from Berwick was named player of the year at the Football Association Women's Football Awards on Friday.

    The 24-year-old was part of the England squad that finished third at the World Cup in Canada.

    She scored a long-range winner in the second round against Norway and the second goal in a 2-1 win over Canada in the quarter-finals.

  18. Tyne ferry rescued over weekendpublished at 11:22

    Passengers on the cross-Tyne ferry had to be rescued as its engine failed and it was carried off in a "howling gale".

    The Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat went to the aid of the Spirit of the Tyne at 23:30 as it made its final crossing between North and South Shields.

    Three passengers and two crew were rescued by the Port of Tyne pilot boat before the ferry, manned only by the captain, was blown into a riverbank.

    The lifeboat then towed the ferry back to port.
