The BBC's election results programme says the exit poll suggests Stockton South might have been taken from the Conservatives by Labour.
James Wharton has been the MP in the constituency since 2010 and won again 2015 with an increased share of the vote.
Counting has begun in Redcar but the result is not expected until 03:00.

They're used to running at election time in Sunderland.
Houghton and Sunderland South has been the first constituency to declare its result since 1992 and it certainly has no intention of changing that tonight.
Just don't trip.

Bear in mind what has happened in the past when we've put too much emphasis on exit polls.
They're not always right and people aren't always honest about how they've voted.
But the BBC's exit poll will have Theresa May shifting uncomfortably in her seat and Jeremy Corbyn supporters saying I told you so.
Impressive speed - less than 10 minutes since the polls closed and counting has started in Sunderland.

Remarkable exit poll. Hung parliament if correct.
No parties on ground here in North East & Cumbria were feeding back that as a prospect.
An exit poll conducted for the BBC, ITV and Sky suggests an uncomfortable result for Theresa May and the Conservatives.
They may be short of majority, with a prediction of 314 seats.
Thank you for joining us - we'll be bringing you all the results from across the North East and Cumbria as they happen.
