Turnout is always important. Winning parties like strong backing that can't be explained away as coming from a minority of the population.
But in this election turnout was especially interesting - would the young, the previously apathetic and the hitherto unengaged decide to put pencil to paper?
And would they do it for Jeremy Corbyn?
Blaydon, Hexham, Newcastle North, Stockton South, Tynemouth and Penrith all had turnouts of more than 70%.
Hexham's was 75.76% - one of the highest in the country - and they returned Conservative Guy Opperman.

It hasn't been peaceful, has it?
The night has steamrollered expectations (and some politicians' careers), leaving people delighted, shocked or speechless, depending on political affiliation.
So here you go, have this calming picture of Berwick, our last count to declare, taken early this morning by Mike Fraser.
The Labour MP for Barrow and Furness was emotional as he celebrated his narrow re-election over Conservative candidate Simon Fell by just 209 votes.
Here are pictures of some of the key moments in the North East & Cumbria overnight.
The first surprise of the night was Newcastle rather than Sunderland declaring first just after 23:00. Labour's Chi Onwurah becoming the first MP in the Newcastle Central Constituency.
Two of the largest shocks of the night came on Teesside with Conservative James Wharton losing Stockton South to Labour's Paul Wiliams.
Then Conservative Simon Clarke beat Labour's Tracy Harvey by 1,020 votes in Middlesbrough South and Cleveland East.
In Cumbria there were two recounts in Barrow and Westmorland and Lonsdale, where Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron kept his seat with a majority of 777.
The final result of the night was Berwick with Conservative Anne-Marie Trevelyan retaining her seat.

Thoughts as I wake up - Conservative vote in the North East & Cumbria at two-decade high but Labour gained from turnout surge.
The Conservatives were right to think they would harvest majority of UKIP votes in NE & Cumbria but could not pick up enough Labour converts.
And in Stockton South the Conservatives took their eyes off the ball and saw almost no rise in their vote while Labour surged.

Speaking on BBC Radio Cumbria, the Liberal Democrat leader and re-elected MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale Tim Farron says he's disappointed to see his colleague Nick Clegg lose his seat in Sheffield Hallam.
Quote MessageI'm gutted by it frankly. He was an outstanding Deputy Prime Minister, a great MP for Sheffield Hallam. Parliament will be worse for his absence.
You might think it's a bit early for some 90s dance pop.
The activists celebrating a narrow win for Labour's John Woodcock in Barrow & Furness would disagree with you.

Anne-Marie Trevelyan keeps hold of Berwick for the Conservatives.
And that is Berwick.
There are suggestions it might be a while - but we're fully prepared to accept that anything said with certainty almost certainly won't happen these days.
