  2. 'Tallest office block' planned for Middlesbroughpublished at 09:14 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2020

James Cain, Local Democracy Reporting Service

Plans for the tallest office block anywhere from Leeds to Glasgow have been submitted in Middlesbrough.

If approved, the 20-storey Boho X office development would be built on land close to where the original Middlesbrough Farm once stood before the growth of the town as a 19th century capital of industry.

Mayor Andy Preston launched the project at a meeting of business leaders, describing it as the biggest single investment in the town’s history.

He said: "This is our building. A campus building with a monstrous tower that’s going to stand out from wherever you are on Teesside, whether you’re on Roseberry Topping or the A19 flyover, or somewhere in Billingham – you will see it for miles around.

“This [260ft tall] building will be the biggest office building between Leeds and Glasgow.

“It’s an expression of our ambition and it’s an expression of how precious the land around this is going to be.”
