    Sussex 250-7 v Durham

The lights have just come on in CLS. It's got very gloomy and there are lots of threatening clouds about. It's very windy too.

Durham can take the new ball in two deliveries, but the runs have dried up and Jack Carson has just been caught behind off Bas De Leede on two.

They have lost three wickets since tea for just 30 runs, but have reached a batting point. Durham will feel it's been their day though, especially with the Kookaburra ball!

  4. Sussex are gently pootling alongpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 22 June

    Sussex 77-1 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Sussex chose to bat earlier and struggled initially, as Ben Raine bowled Tom Haines for four in the third over. Five of his first seven overs were maidens.

Tom Clark also found the going tough and took nearly 20 deliveries to get off the mark, but has now put on more than 50 with Australian Daniel Hughes. Clark has 29 and Hughes 41.

This is one of two back to back Kokaburra ball games and last season they were awful to watch. They offer very little for the bowlers, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sussex wrack up a decent score. However they are gently pootling along at three an over at the minute.

Jofra Archer is playing in his first championship match for four years. He's just had a net session with his England colleague, the Durham fast bowler Mark Wood, who is also returning from injury.

  5. Archer will have to wait a bit longerpublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 22 June

    Durham v Sussex day one

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

There was a bit of confusion about yesterday after Sussex named their squad for this one and it did not include Jofra Archer. He was on the team bus at the time!

Jack Carson was also missing from that list, but is also here in Chester-le-Street. Apparently with Archer, it was an attempt to try and avoid too much press attention, but after a few phone calls to the England press office, it was confirmed he would be playing today. Carson is also featuring.

Archer has missed so much cricket in recent years because of injury. This will be his first championship match with Sussex since a game against Kent in May 2021.

However, Sussex have won the toss and will bat first. So, the wait for Archer goes on.
