17:01 BST 29 JulyDurham 153 v Surrey 46-3
Martin Emmerson
BBC Radio NewcastleDurham were out for 153 earlier today, after deciding to bat. Given their relegation predicament I asked where their fighting spirit was?
Well, we are seeing some of what's needed now. Surrey have not found the going easy at all and are struggling at 45-3. They were 27-3, having lost Rory Burns for two, Dom Sibley for 12 and Sam Curran for four.
Matty Potts got Burns lbw, while Sibley edged Ben Raine to the keeper. Curran was then caught in the slips off his bowling.
I don't think this is a minefield of a track, but it is slower than usual and maybe the fact the ball is not coming onto the bat as truly as it should be is the main issue. We'll see how things pan out.
But it has been a good start with the ball for the hosts.

15:42 BST 29 JulyDurham 153 v Surrey - tea, day one
Martin Emmerson
BBC Radio NewcastleIf the Durham players did not think they were in a relegation scrap going into this game, they certainly need to think they are now.
They were bowled out on a really poor track, at Taunton last week, for just 145. Surrey bowled them out today for 153 and they can't blame the pitch for this one.
The self belief appears to have drained away.
Surrey bowled well and kept it tight. Dan Worrall took 4-31 and Sam Curran 3-22, but shot selection left many questions.
The task facing them now is immense. They struggle to bowl teams out as a rule anyway, but find it a lot more difficult with a Kookaburra ball. This could be a really significant week in terms of where these two sides are going to end up come late September.

14:21 BST 29 JulyDurham 101-7 v Surrey
Martin Emmerson
BBC Radio NewcastleDurham are right in the middle of the relegation fight following their two-day defeat at Taunton last week. But do they have the stomach for it? Because at the moment they look a very sorry sight.
They chose to bat on a slow track today but have never got going. Surrey have bowled with discipline and tight lines and taken wickets regularly. Too many players are getting out to shots they should not be playing and confidence looks shot. The lack of foot movement is also a worry.
As things stand they will be luck to make 150 at this rate. They only made 145 in their first innings at Somerset last week - and the batting side of the team was the strong point for me this season!
Why are so many players out of form at the same time? And where are the partnerships going to come from to rescue this one?
