We weren't sure which way this one was going to go this morning. Could Lancashire frustrate Durham on a benign pitch and bat well into the afternoon, or would they collapse like a pack of cards?
Well, it was the latter as Matty Potts ran through them, taking a career-best 9-68 to finish with 12-126 in the game, his second best match figures.
The tone was set when he had George Balderson LBW in the second over for 16. He followed that with three wickets in the space of four balls nine overs later, as Venkatesh Iyer was bowled for 28, while Tom Hartley and Tom Bailey got ducks two balls apart.
The final pairing added 61 runs before Potts returned to the attack - and armed with the new ball - got debutant Anderson Phillip for 41, LBW, with the second delivery of the over.
Durham are now safe. That's their third innings win of the season and the second in a row here.
Lancashire are in a mess. They are mired in the relegation scrap and have lost three in a row by an innings for the first time since 1907. It's the first time they have also lost four by an innings in the same championship season.

In 2021 David Bedingham became the first Durham player to make 300 runs in a game. That was in a draw against Derbyshire in Chester-le-Street.
Today he was threatening to do that in one innings against Lancashire, but was out on 279. It is the highest score by a Durham player. It beats Martin Love's 273 in a win against Hants in 2003.
Durham could have declared earlier but I think they were waiting to see if Bedingham could reach the 300 and when he didn't they came off.
He also put on 425 for the fifth wicket with Colin Ackermann, who was eventually out for 186. That was the highest total for any wicket by Durham and the second highest stand in the County Championship for a fifth wicket.
Ironically that title is held by Colin Ackermann, who put on 477* with Wiaan Mulder at Hove in 2022.

David Bedingham has passed the 1,000 run barrier in the County Championship for the third time today.
At 1,058 runs this is also his best season in the format. And he now has six centuries in the season. The club record of seven was set by Keaton Jennings - the current Lancashire skipper - when he played for Durham in 2016.
Bedingham scored 101 and 103 against Lancashire in Blackpool back in May. So he now has three centuries in three innings against them this year.
His stand of 182 with Colin Ackermann, who has 74, is also Durham's highest fifth wicket partnership against The Red Rose.
The visitors look flat in the field and haven't taken a wicket for 41 overs. I think that's everything for now.
The man remains in custody, Cleveland Police said.

West Indian debutant Anderson Phillip has taken two wickets so far today. He took Ben McKinney's middle stump out of the ground just before lunch, courtesy of a thick bottom edge.
Moments ago he got Alex Lees LBW for 43, the ball skidded in quick and low and got him right in front of the stumps.
The 28-year-old bowler from Trinidad and Tobago is getting a bit of pace out of the track in Chester-le-Street, having only been signed by Lancashire towards the back end of last week.
His debut contrasts with fellow West Indian Chemar Holder, who bowled for Durham yesterday and took 0-53.
It will be interesting to see how good Lancashire's total of 228 will be. Ollie Robinson has also gone LBW to Tom Aspinwall for 4. He's out of form at the moment after a great start to the season.
David Bedingham is key to what Durham can achieve here. His partnership with Lees was worth 69, the highest of the game so far.
Bedingham, who has just returned from international duty with South Africa, has 30.

Ben Raine's bowled really nicely in this game and now has the 14th five-wicket haul of his career.
West Indian debutant Anderson Phillip was victim number five, falling LBW for two in the 11 over of the new ball. Raine's taken 5-39 in 24 overs with nine of them maidens. That maiden count includes four wicket maidens.
Earlier there was major disappointment for 20-year-old Matthew Hurst, who agonisingly ran himself out on 90. Tom Bailey had played the ball down to third man and appeared to be happy with two runs, while his colleague clearly thought there was a third to be had.
By the time he realised the error of his ways he was too far down the track and was run out by Matty Potts, as the bowler took a throw from Bas De Leede in the deep.
It is sunny in Chester-le-Street but also very windy and there's a chill to the air as well. Because of rain yesterday, day two is scheduled for 104 overs.
