One of the best things about a day at the Great Yorkshire Show is the huge variety of things that you get to try for the first time.

One of those this year at our BBC tent on the President's Lawn is a chance to present the weather forecast.

In this video, national forecaster Alex Deakin talks about his Yorkshire roots and how they go about putting the forecast together.

  6. Traffic and Travel update: One-way system in operation close to Showgroundpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 12 July 2016

    BBC Travel

If you're trying to make your way into Harrogate this afternoon, you need to be aware that there are restrictions on some of the roads surrounding the Yorkshire Showground.

It's to help alleviate potential queues as tens-of-thousands of people leave the Great Yorkshire Show.

It means there is a one-way system in operation on the A661 between Rudding Lane and the Kestrel roundabout and you cannot enter the town on this road.

The same one-way system is also in operation on the A658 between the Kestrel roundabout and the B6163.

    Joanita Musisi
    Reporter, BBC Radio York

One of the big Yorkshire stories of the year was the Mums who rowed across the Atlantic.

They're the oldest team to do so and they all missed Christmas with their families, to get into the record books.

They're here at the show - complete with their boat!

It's not just the animals being made to look their best at the Great Yorkshire Show.

Four decades ago some bright spark came up with the idea of using the show as a showcase for British wool, but that simple and apt idea grew and evolved into a yearly full-blown fashion show.

Around 6,000 visitors head for the Fashion Pavilion during the three-day agricultural extravaganza to catch a glimpse of the latest trends and catwalk looks, as well as a sneak preview of the new autumn/winter collections.

The inclusion this year of a new category for gigantic animals at the Great Yorkshire Show has had some suprising bonuses.

  18. Traffic and travel update: £100,000 spent on traffic management for Great Yorkshire Showpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 12 July 2016

    BBC Travel

Organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, have been in touch to tell us they spend £100,000 each year on traffic management to try and make your journey to and from the show as easy as possible.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that hold-ups on the roads can be avoided.

    A59Image source, Google

Traffic continues to be stop-start between the Whixley crossroads and Goldsborough on the A59 westbound. It's the same on the eastbound carriageway between Knaresborough and the A1. That's usually a three- minute journey, but currently it's taking 20.

If you're still thinking about heading down there at some point over the next three days, your best bet might be the train. There are currently no delays between York and Harrogate.

  19. The great and the good are at the Great Yorkshire Showpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 12 July 2016

    David Ward
    BBC Local Live, York

No member of the Royal Family is expected at the Great Yorkshire Show this year, but there is cricketing royalty on the Showground today.

Instead of preparing for commentary on the 1st Test between England and Pakistan at Lords that begins on Thursday (and includes three Yorkshire players), cricketing legend Geoffrey Boycott is spending his day in Harrogate....and it looks like he has a captive audience!

  20. Will Brexit affect the fight against rural crime in North Yorkshire?published at 12:28 British Summer Time 12 July 2016

    Georgey Spanswick
    Presenter, BBC Radio York

All sorts of issues are being discussed at the Great Yorkshire Show this week.

One of the most important is the impact that Brexit may have on the emergency services with fears that North Yorkshire Police may have their finances cut.

North Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan popped along to have a chat about these concerns.

She told she'll do everything she can to make sure the county doesn't suffer.

    Julia Mulligan
    Quote Message

Our funding settlement may be looked at again. We've got our finances on a stable footing, we thought we had a settlement which has enabled us to make investment plans. We're going to have to wait and see, but we really need that stabilty. We do need to fight our corner with the funding."
