The top stories from our York newsroom so far this morning include:   

• A temporary mental health hospital opens in York today, a year after the sudden closure of Bootham Park hospital when inspectors found it unsafe
• Workers on rail services between North Yorkshire and London are on strike with RMT rail union members walking out at midnight over a row with Virgin Trains over jobs
• Restaurants and takeaways in Scarborough are being encouraged to offer healthier eating options as part of a new campaign to try to tackle obesity

It's a cold start to the day across the county with mist and fog which will clear throughout the morning, leaving another fine day with plenty of prolonged sunshine.

The roads across the county are trouble-free at the moment, but if you're travelling along the east coast, it's worth knowing that Filey Road in Scarborough is closed for two weeks and diversions are in place.

If you're planning a journey by rail you might encounter some problems on Virgin Trains East Coast - which runs services between North Yorkshire, London and Scotland - as workers are staging a 24-hour-strike.

The train company, however, says it's planning to run a normal service during the strike.
