    The largest casino outside of London will open in Leeds later today.

    The £30m Victoria Gate Casino is in the same shopping centre as the John Lewis store. 

    Developers paid £1m up front to Leeds City Council as part of the licensing agreement.

    A report that murdered MP Jo Cox was working on before her death warning Britain must not shy away from military action has been published today.

    In the weeks before she was killed in an attack in her constituency, the Labour backbencher had started to put together a joint paper with Conservative MP, Tom Tugendhat about the UK's role in the world.

    Widower Brendan Cox said his wife had written on a draft of the report, which was completed by her friend MP Alison McGovern, that "Britain must lead again".

    A multiple marathon runner from Rotherham is in London today to be honoured for his charity efforts.

    Last year Ray Matthews ran 75 marathons in 75 consecutive days, at the age of 75 to raise money for a local school. 

    Today he's being presented with a British Citizen Award at a ceremony at the Palace of Westminster.

    The second headliners for the Leeds and Reading Festival has been revealed as Kasabian.

    The events will be headlined by Muse.

    The bands Two Door Cinema Club, Flume, Fatboy Slim, Wiley, Circa Waves, Jimmy Eat World, The Amity Afflication and Rat Boy are also lined up for the August bank holiday dates.

    People living on a council estate in Rotherham say they weren't consulted about a new heating system which has led to their bills doubling or even tripling in some cases.

    Rotherham Council says they are looking into the issue and when they can assess a full year of costs using all of the new metres, they will provide a pro-rata refund. 

    But residents have started a campaign to get the bills cut and the district heating system replaced.

    The chair of the independent inquiry into the 2015 York floods says the response to its report has been very positive.

    Doncaster Council has been heavily criticised for the way it has been dealing with the problem of homeless people. 

    The head of a homeless charity says "hundreds of thousands" of pounds were spent dealing with the town's tent city. 

    M25 Housing blames Doncaster Council for the charity having to cut back its services from next month.

    Their Executive Director Joyce Foster believes the town's homeless problem is worsening:.

    Leeds United continued their promotion push with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road last night.

    The three points takes Leeds back up to third in the Championship, moving above Reading and West Yorkshire rivals, Huddersfield Town.

    The highlight was provided by French striker Soulemayne Doukara who scored one of the goals of the season:

    Earlier Kiwi forward Chris Woods' 20th of the campaign had given United a deserved lead.

    Young carers in North Yorkshire are being placed on waiting lists for the support they need because demand has doubled in some areas during the past 12 months.

    Groups in Hambleton, Scarborough, Ryedale and York say they're dealing with almost 500 youngsters.

    Among them is Alisha Bennett, 16, who gets help at a centre in Northallerton.

    Imagine if your energy bills had doubled or tripled in the space of a year? That's what's happened in Rotherham.

    People living on the Fitzwilliam Estate say the cost of their heating has tripled since the council installed a new system a year ago.  

    They've started a petition to get the charges reduced but a council official wrote to one resident to say the cost won't change and suggested they could consider getting help with their other household bills to help them budget. 

    Rotherham Council says they are aware of the concerns and are looking into the issue.

    The Yorkshire Ambulance Service says paramedics will no longer get to call-outs within eight minutes unless someone's about to die.

    It's taking part in a trial which means call handlers will get longer to assess patients over the phone. 

    NHS managers claim exhaustive phone assessments will mean a more organized response.

    At the moment, all calls classed as "very serious" must be responded to within eight minutes.

    During this test period, managers say no response time guidelines will exist for non-life threatening call-outs.
