    Police are investigating a report of bogus police officers in Selby.

    Four men tried to gain access to a property in Barlow earlier this month. The told the occupant that they were police officers and had come to carry out a search warrant.

    Three of the men went to the door while the other man remained inside the Volvo they'd arrived in.

    One man was dressed in a white forensic-style suit.

    Police have described one of the suspects as Asian, 5'11" tall, with a short beard. He was wearing dark-coloured clothing, a baseball cap, and spoke with a West Yorkshire accent.

    The occupant challenged the men and they left without getting in.

    Breaking

    A man has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after the boat he was working on capsized near a Leeds tourist attraction.

    Police say they were called to the scene at about 12:45 today near Thwaites Mill - where part of the new Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme is being constructed.

    West Yorkshire writer Kay Mellor says she became "fixated" on losing weight as she was researching her TV series Fat Friends.

    The hit ITV drama, starring James Corden, aired between 2000 and 2005 and focused on a slimming group in Leeds.

    She attended a group to help her writing, but was then told by the leader she needed to lose weight.

    The 66-year-old told BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs: "I started to want to lose weight so I could please her and please all the class."

    On Friday we told you about some of the artists that have been shortlisted for the York Culture Awards.

    Kitty VR is one of three finalists in the "Rising Star" category.

    She often busks in the city centre and recently organised a 24-hour busking challenge to raise money for the family of a couple killed at the Manchester Arena attack.

    Kitty says she wishes she knew who nominated her so she could thank them.

    She will find out how she's done at a ceremony in the Minster next month.

    Work will begin today to build more cycle lanes in Leeds.

    The CityConnect project aims to provide segregated cycle lanes in Leeds city centre and will see the cycle Superhighways between Bradford and Seacroft linked together.

    The scheme is being led by Leeds City Council and forms part of a wider ambition to deliver "transformational cycling infrastructure" across the region.

    Former soldier Ben Parkinson has had surgery in a hope that he could eventually walk unaided.

    The Lance Bombardier from Doncaster lost both legs and suffered more than 40 injuries in a landmine blast in Afghanistan in 2006.

    He's undergone more surgery to tackle a curve at the bottom of his spine.

    Ben hopes the surgery will mean he can walk unaided on his prosthetic legs one day.

    Detectives investigating an assault on a man where he was hit over the head with a baseball bat have arrested a 28-year-old man.

    Officers took the unusual step of releasing pictures of the victim last Wednesday following the attack on 29 September.

    Francis Manda, aged 43, was attacked at the junction of Lupton Avenue and Torre Drive, and is still in hospital.

    The 28-year-old man was arrested at his home in the Kirkstall area of Leeds on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody.

    Two lion statues that were removed from Sheffield's City Hall during renovation work will return after 55 years in storage.

    The two grand art deco stone lions were placed on the stage when City Hall opened in 1932.

    But they were then removed in 1962 when the venue was renovated, being placed at the offices of a construction company.

    As part of City Hall's 85th anniversary celebrations the lions will return and be placed in the foyer.

    We've been bringing you this all morning about trains being disrupted around Conisbrough after vandalism and a track-side fire.

    It's meant that CrossCountry trains won't be stopping at Doncaster as work is carried out to fix the damaged signalling.

  10. Terrorism arrests: Two 14-year-olds can be questioned until Wednesdaypublished at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2017

    Two 14-year-old boys from Northallerton have been arrested on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism.

    They are being questioned at a police station in West Yorkshire and can be held there for the next two days.

    Police say that the teenagers were arrested at their homes on Saturday.

    A number of items were seized from the properties and are currently being examined by detectives, the North East Counter Terrorism Unit says the arrests are part of an ongoing police led inquiry.

    Since Saturday, searches have been carried out at a number of properties in the Romanby area of the town and officers have permission to question the 14-year-olds until Wednesday.

    Thousands of people from all over the UK and beyond have taken part in the Whitby Goth Weekend.

    The event, which was first held in 1994, was prompted by the town's association with Bram Stoker's gothic novel, Dracula.

    Organisers said the weekend is now one of the biggest of its type anywhere in the world.

    Since 1997, it has been held twice a year, in April and October.

    The event is also said to generate about £1m in revenue at what is otherwise a quiet time of year for local hoteliers.

    A woman has been rescued by mountain rescue teams from moorland above Hebden Bridge.

    The 32-year-old was with a friend when she fell and dislocated her knee.

    They raised the alarm in poor weather conditions including heavy winds and low cloud.

    Calder Valley Search and Rescue split their 21-strong team into two to find her.

    Once located, the team put her into a winter sleeping bag and loaded her onto a stretcher and carried her for half-a-mile across the moor to a nearby farm to which an ambulance was called.

    A man has died following a fire at a flat in Sheffield.

    It happened around 07:15 on Saturday 28 October on Colley Drive, Parson Cross.

    The man was found when firefighters went into the flat.

    An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

    Police have recovered a body while searching for 30-year-old Richard Taylor, who went missing from South Milford.

    A man's body was found near Mushroom Farm in Thorpe Willoughby, near Selby, at around 15:25 on Sunday.

    A formal identification is yet to take place but Mr Taylor's family has been informed.

    Wooden towers are being used to block a road near the fracking site at Kirby Misperton.

    Anti-fracking protesters have climbed on top of the structures on Habton Road, which is closed to all vehicles and pedestrians.

    Two lanes are now closed on the M62 westbound between J26 and J25 according to Highways England.

    It looks like a small van is stuck in between the slow and ,middle lane on the carriageway.

    Queues are just over three miles long at the minute, with 10 minute delays.

    Police are appealing for help in finding a missing Doncaster man who was last seen on Saturday night.

    John Parker, 54, was seen leaving his home address on Warmsworth Road, Balby at around 20:00.

    He is white, of a slim build, 5ft 4ins tall, has no front teeth, long grey hair at the sides and has an unkempt grey beard.

    He was possibly wearing a blue padded winter coat and grey pyjama bottoms.
