    Castleford Tigers winger Greg Eden has signed a new three-year deal.

    The 27-year-old enjoyed a superb first season with the Tigers in 2017, scoring 41 tries in all competitions after joining from NRL side Brisbane Broncos.

    "Last year I was really enjoying my rugby and I feel like I slotted straight back into the Castleford way of playing rugby," he said.

    "I've really enjoyed my time here since I've been back and I'm ecstatic to have extended my contract."

    Heavy traffic due to earlier flooding and debris on A64 eastbound between A659 Tadcaster West and A659 Tadcaster East, congestion on A64 to A1(M) J44 Bramham.

    All lanes have been re-opened.

    Lane one (of two) was closed until around 13:20 either side of Tadcaster.

    James Wilby has pulled off a big shock in the Men's 200 metres breast stroke at the Commonwealth Games in Australia by winning gold for England.

    James started his swimming career with York City Baths Club before he moved to Loughborough University to continue studying alongside his swimming.

    James was part of England's victorious 4 X 100m medley relay team at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

    Work will begin next week to repair a busy commuter route in Scarborough which was damaged during a storm last August.

    The A165 Ramshill Road, between Valley Bridge and the junction with West Street will be closed from Monday, 9 April until Friday, 13 April.

    The timetable depends on the weather.

    Letters have been sent to residents and businesses to advise them about the work.

    The county council says there will be temporary road closures on weekday nights between 19:00 and 02:00 when the work is due takes place.

    A councillor in Calderdale won't face a council investigation after he was suspended by his own party for sharing an article which called Muslims "parasites" on social media.

    Calderdale councillor Mike Payne shared an article in 2013 which had the headline "France slashes benefits to Muslim parasites by 83%".

    He says he didn't say anything racist and was criticising the then-French government's policy.

    Yesterday the Conservatives suspended the Sowerby Bridge councillor pending an investigation.

    However - Calderdale Council says it can't investigate the matter as he wasn't a councillor at the time and he'll continue in his role as an Independent Conservative.

    Claims that charges for the disposal of building waste have fuelled a rise in fly-tipping in North Yorkshire have been rejected by the county council.

    It's after a Hambleton District Council report claimed that fly-tipping clean-up costs had "significantly" risen since the charges were introduced in 2014.

    North Yorkshire County Council says the majority of fly-tipped waste is material that can be disposed of for free at recycling centres.

    It says the charges which were implemented on certain materials are unlikely to be responsible for the increase.

    A man is in hospital with serious head injuries after a crash in Huddersfield.

    The 31-year-old man was driving along Botany Lane in Lepton at about 17:30 on Wednesday when he collided with a Peugeot van.

    He was left with serious head injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

    The driver of the van had minor injuries.

    Police say they're now looking for witnesses to come forward.

    England have won their first gold medal of the Commonwealth Games in Australia thanks - in part - to Leeds gymnast Nile Wilson.

    Wilson is part of the men's gymnastics team, who scored a total of 258.950, leaving them more than 10 points clear of Canada.

    His team-mate Max Whitlock led them to victory, top-scoring with his floor and pommel routines to clinch the win alongside team-mates Courtney Tulloch, James Hall and Dominick Cunningham.

    An increase in the number of young people being referred to Doncaster Children's Services Trust has left the organisation with a multi-million pound deficit.

    The independent trust, which works with Doncaster Council, has forecast an overspend of about £2.9m.

    Bosses say the financial difficulty is because of the "number and level of complexity of children in care".

    A 70/30 risk share agreement between the council and the trust means Doncaster Council will be liable to fund a further £940,000.

    Additional monitoring measures have been agreed between the council and the trust as a result.

    Duffy was in a class of her own. She won in 56 minutes and 50 seconds with Learmonth 43 seconds back.

  20. Traffic and Travel: Lane closures on M1 northboundpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    Two out of three lanes are currently closed on the M1 northbound in South Yorkshire,

    The stretch affected is between Junction 32 (Thurcroft) and Junction 33 (Catcliffe/Sheffield/Rotherham).;

    The closure's due to emergency repair work.

    Motorists should expect about a 20-minute delay.
