    The stage premiere of best-selling novel The Girl on the Train will take place at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds from 12 May, it has been announced.

    Actress Jill Halfpenny (picturd) is to star in the play.

    The former EastEnders star and Strictly Come Dancing winner will play Rachel, the troubled woman who watches other people's lives from her commuter train.

    Paula Hawkins' thriller has sold almost 20 million copies and was turned into a film starring Emily Blunt in 2016.

    Halfpenny said she was relishing the prospect of playing a character who is "completely flawed".

    The adaptation will then go on a UK-wide tour after its run in Leeds.

  2. Railway landslip diversions 'in place until Monday'published at 17:38 British Summer Time 5 April 2018

    Diversions on the railway line between Leeds and Ilkley are to stay in place until Monday after a landslip above a tunnel caused extensive damage, Network Rail has confirmed.

    The landslip happened at Springs Tunnel near Guiseley railway station on Tuesday evening.

    About 80 tonnes of fallen debris, including large trees and soil, needs to be cleared away and repairs are already under way, according to Network Rail.

    Passengers travelling between Leeds and Ilkley are being urged to check their journey before they travel and alternative arrangements are in place.

    Chris Gee, head of operations at Network Rail, says: "Our teams have been working on-site 24/7 since the landslip was reported and progress so far has been good."

    Twelve gang members from Huddersfield have been given "gangbo injunctions" after their involvement in long-running feuds and for "inciting fear across Kirklees".

    Officers say the men have been involved in a series of violent crimes including attempted murder, firing guns and dealing drugs.

    The orders restrict them from going to certain places or meeting certain people - and if they break the order they can be arrested.

    West Yorkshire Police have called the move "unprecedented" and say that breach of the orders could land the gang members in jail.

    Police in Leeds have released pictures of four men they want to speak to after a mass brawl at a Leeds pub in February.

    West Yorkshire Police say they've already interviewed 15 men, aged 19 to 42, over the fight, which happened at The Arc bar in Headingley.

    Although the brawl happened on 17 February, they still haven't been able to find these four men.

    Det Insp James Entwistle said: "This was a serious incident of violence in a public place and we remain very keen to make sure that all those involved are identified."

    Do you know this man? Police want to talk to him after a woman had her bag stolen by a man on a bike in Leeds:

    It happened last Thursday on Shakespeare Street in Burmantofts when a man rode his bike past a 49-year-old woman and grabbed her bag.

    She lost her mobile phone and other personal items in the robbery and he rode off leaving her with injuries on her arm.

    Anyone with information about his identity is being asked to contact police.

    A Rotherham construction company has been fined more than £70,000 after an employee was seriously injured.

    Sheffield Magistrates' Court heard that in September 2016 a 48-year-old employee of KDS Construction Company Ltd, based in Taylors Court in Rotherham, suffered multiple injuries after a large segment of concrete fell on him.

    The firm pleaded guilty to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act and was fined £70,000 and ordered to pay costs of £4,016.15.

    A North Yorkshire heritage railway involved in a World War Two re-enactment weekend has withdrawn its invitation to a group who dress as German soldiers.

    The North Yorkshire Moors Railway said it was in response to negative publicity in the press last year.

    The charity said it was a "very difficult decision" but it needed to protect its family image.

    Neil Robertson, from the Das Reich group of re-enactors, said the press had exercised "power without responsibility".

    Police believe the man and the woman could have important information about the collision which happened on Tuesday 13 March at about 12:40 in the afternoon.

    Sandra Lee, 56, was seriously injured after being struck by a Skoda Fabia which was reversing on Brookroyd View. She died later from her injuries.

    The two people in the picture, or anyone else who may have witnessed the incident, is being asked to contact police.

    The Arctic Monkeys have finally revealed the name and release date of their sixth album following a five-year hiatus.

    The Sheffield rock group have called their new album Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino and it will be released on 11 May.

    It follows their Mercury Prize-nominated album, AM, in 2013.

    A 70-year-old man has suffered "serious injuries" following a crash on the M62 slip road earlier today.

    Police were called to the J25 slip road on the A644 roundabout at about 11:50 this morning.

    A yellow Honda motorbike and a blue Volvo were involved in a collision, say police.

    Anyone who witnessed the collision is being asked to contact police.

    The sun's been shining across North Yorkshire today, but efforts to deal with flooding still continue.

    Ryedale District Council says it's still checking on water levels and is working with various agencies to pump water away from properties in Malton and Norton.

    Meanwhile, water levels on the River Ouse in York (pictured) also remain high.

    Eight flood warnings remain in place across the county.

    Have you seen 18-year-old Ryan McLean? He's gone missing from his student accommodation near Huddersfield and police are concerned for his welfare.

    Ryan was last seen at about 05:30 this morning at the Storthes Hall Student Village in Kirburton and is still thought to be in the Huddersfield area.

    He's described as white, 6ft 3ins tall, of slim build and possibly wearing black skinny jeans and a black hooded top with a "Berlin" motif.

    Anyone with information about his whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

    North Yorkshire County Council has dismissed claims that charges for the disposal of building waste have fuelled a rise in fly-tipping.

    The authority says the volume of fly-tipped waste which can still be disposed of for free at its recycling centres means charges for certain materials are unlikely to be responsible for the increase.

    The response comes after a Hambleton District Council report claimed fly-tipping clear-up costs had significantly risen since the charges were introduced in 2014.
