Summary

DUP marginally largest party by one seat
Sinn Féin has increased its vote, taking 27 seats
Biggest casualty is UUP leader Mike Nesbitt who announces resignation
Turnout is the highest in assembly poll since the vote which followed the 1998 Good Friday Agreement
Overall turnout is 64.8% - up from 54.9% last year

Ian Paisley said Sinn Féin was about "pressing the reboot button" because they didn't like the fact that the DUP was 10 seats ahead of them.
He also said: "I personally resent a lot of people popping up and claiming the mantle of my father, and claiming they speak for him and know what his mind would have been.
"Quite frankly that's actually an insult to him. Just stop."

Three out of five seats have gone to Sinn Féin, which was probably never in doubt.
SF leader Michelle O'Neill topped the poll and colleagues Ian Milne and Linda Dillon were also successful. Another seat went to the DUP's Keith Buchanan, leaving one seat which is being hotly contested by the SDLP's Patsy McGlone and Ulster Unionist Sandra Overend.
