A man in his 30s has died while trying to clear a fallen tree in County Tipperary. It happened at about 12:30.

The man is the second person to die during the storm. Earlier a woman in her 50s died after a tree fell on the car she was travelling in. The passenger in the car has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Hurricane Ophelia: The story so farpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 16 October 2017
With Hurricane Ophelia moving north, Northern Ireland is expected to get the worst of its stormy winds in the next couple of hours.
So far, the storm has badly affected the Republic of Ireland, with a woman killed by a fallen tree in County Waterford and about 120,000 homes without power.

Irish PM Leo Varadkar has described the storm as a "national emergency".
Meanwhile, many businesses in Northern Ireland have shut for the day with the advice to the public being to head home and stay home while the worst of the weather passes.

The woman was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí (Irish police) say conditions in the area are treacherous. Motorists are urged not to travel anywhere unless it is an emergency.
