    Speaking on Talkback, Michelle Gildernew, MP for Sinn Féin, said that the party is hopeful that Martina Anderson is re-elected to her seat in Europe.

    But when asked whether Ms Anderson would be returned in the first count, she said that they are "down 10,000 postal votes" because of the demand of running two elections.

    BBC News NI recently reported that there were significantly fewer applications for postal and proxy votes in Northern Ireland for the European elections than for the council elections.

    During the last European Election in 2014, around 13,782 postal votes were cast.

    With almost all the results from the rest of the UK now in , it's been a bad election for both Labour and the Conservatives.Both parties have lost MEPs to the Brexit Party and the Liberal Democrats, and the Green Party are ahead of the Tories overall.

    Overall, out of 64 MEPs declared so far, Mr Farage's party has won 28, the Lib Dems 15, Labour 10, Greens seven, the Tories three and Plaid Cymru one. Scotland has yet to officially declare but the SNP looks set to win three seats.

    Counting

    Voters went to the polls on Thursday to decide who would represent them at the European Paliament and counting began at 08:00 this morning in Magherafelt, County Londonderry.
