  10. UK government announces more intelligence fundingpublished at 09:03

The British public must show "resolve" and "carry on with our lives" in the wake of the Paris attacks, Prime Minister David Cameron has said.

  11. French stocks fall after Paris attackspublished at 08:57

It was perhaps predictable but French stocks have fallen after the attacks on Paris on Friday. And it's companies that rely on tourism that are the worst affected. Hotel firm Accor is the biggest faller in the French main market. It dropped 7.2%. Eurotunnel Group was another travel firm on the slide, declining 4.4%. LVMH, the French luxury conglomerate, which has lots of shops in airports, dipped 2.6%.

  12. 'Cameron claim IS are weaker is misleading'published at 08:53

Frank Gardner, BBC security correspondent says...

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

Frank Gardner says he would be very careful about saying the attacks in Paris from so called Islamic State come because they are weaker.

He said there was an optimistic view that this was "the thrashings of a wounded beast". He adds the air strikes are hurting them but they are able to replenish themselves.

    Quote Message

The idea that they've lost 25% of their territory as David Cameron suggested on this programme an hour ago, is I think misleading. Maybe you can find a way to construct that on a map, but the fact is in the last year they've taken Palmyra, and they've taken Ramadi and there is no sign of them giving up Mosul - the second most important city in Iraq. They're still there they haven't gone away."

On the news of extra staff for the security services he says it sounds good on paper, but it will take time to train these people.

He said the extra staff would be most beneficial to GCHQ in order to track apps that are used by terrorists without being detected. He adds that communities have been fantastic at telling authorities when someone is acting suspiciously.

  16. Former Met boss: Don't rush through new lawspublished at 08:40

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

    Quote Message

I would be urging him to make every opportunity for parliament to examine this legislation as soon as possible. I don't think I would rush it, because that would cause more opposition than we need. I'm quite clear that powers, most of the powers, in this bill are the right powers, but we should make sure we maximise the immediate availability of parliamentary time to get this bill onto the statue books as soon as possible."

Sir Ian Blair, Former Metropolitan police commissioner

  17. Air strikes against Syria still need backing of MPspublished at 08:38

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

The prime minister said he wants Britain to carry out air strikes against Islamic State militants (ISIL) in Syria but still needs to convince MPs to back such action.

    Quote Message

I have always said I think that it is sensible that we should - ISIL don't recognise a border between Iraq and Syria and neither should we but I need to build the argument, I need to take it to parliament, I need to convince more people. We won't hold that vote unless we can see that parliament would endorse action because to fail on this would be damaging, it is not a question of damaging the government it is a question of not damaging our country and its reputation in the world."

    David Cameron

The UK is involved in bombing in Iraq but Mr Cameron lost a parliamentary vote in 2013 to extend that action to Syria. The prime minister said he would take immediate direct action if British interests were at stake citing drone attacks which had killed British militants in August.
