  4. Tim Farron: Send a message on Brexitpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 26 October 2016

The Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron has said that the upcoming Richmond Park by-election will be a chance for constituents to “send a message to the Conservative government” about how they are handling Brexit.

He said that Theresa May was taking the country into “an extreme version of Brexit” and that people should have a say on it.

Mr Farron also accused former Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith of failing the constituency by allowing Heathrow expansion to happen “on his watch”.

He said the Liberal Democrats were the only party to successfully oppose Heathrow expansion, while in Coalition with the Conservatives.

Mr Farron admitted that Zac Goldsmith was the favourite, but also said he was backed by the Conservative Party “so if you’re against Heathrow, you don’t vote Zac Goldsmith”.
