    Following a request from French authorities, the process of transferring child refugees from the Jungle camp in Calais to the UK was halted earlier on Monday

    The Home Office said: "Due to planned operational activity in Calais and at the request of the French authorities, we have reluctantly agreed that the transfer process will be temporarily paused."

    Commenting on the pause, Immigration Minister Robert Goodwill said: “We are absolutely committed to safeguarding and protecting children in Calais and have already transferred a considerable number of unaccompanied minors to the UK so far this year.

    He continued: “Our focus is, and will continue to be, transferring all eligible minors to the UK as soon as possible and ensuring they arrive safely. This must be done through an agreed and proper process and with the agreement of the French.”

    Today's business in the Commons begins with communities and local government questions, from just after 2:30pm.

    Prime Minister Theresa May will make a statement to MPs on last week's meeting of EU leaders in Brussels. 

    The PM told fellow EU leaders during the two-day summit that she expects the UK to be part of EU decision-making while it is still a member.

    After that, Home Secretary Amber Rudd will make a statement to MPs on the situation in Calais. 

    More than 1,200 police and officials have begun an operation to clear the "Jungle" migrant camp in the French port.

    Today's legislation is the second reading of the Health Service Medical Supplies (Costs) Bill, and the day finishes with a short debate on NHS provision in Brighton and Hove.

    The Department of Culture, Media and Sport has announced a review of gambling machines, with a focus on the maximum stakes and prizes available on them. 

    The government is calling for evidence on the machines, which include the Fixed Odds Betting Terminals that can be found in bookmakers' shops.

    Minister for Gambling Tracey Crouch said: "It is important that gambling regulations strike the right balance between allowing the industry to contribute to the economy and enable people to bet responsibly whilst ensuring consumers and communities are protected."

    The review intends to also consider the possible impact of advertising for gambling, including whether children and vulnerable people are currently adequately protected from it.

    More than 100 MPs have signed a letter calling on President Barack Obama to block the extradition of a British man suspected of hacking into US computers.

    Lauri Love, 31, who has Asperger's syndrome, is accused of hacking into the FBI, the US central bank and the country's missile defence agency.

    The letter, signed by 105 cross-party backbenchers, stresses the "deep concern for the safety" of Mr Love.

    He has previously said he feared he would die in a US prison if extradited.

    Today marks the first day in the Commons for Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin, elected last week following the death of Labour's Jo Cox in June. 

    Before becoming an MP, Ms Brabin made her name as an actress in television dramas including Eastenders and Doctors. Her best-known role came playing Trisha Armstrong in Coronation Street. 

    The Yorkshire MP isn't the first star of stage or screen to join the House of Commons...

    Glenda Jackson as Queen Elizabeth the first

    Glenda Jackson was the Labour MP for Hampstead and Kilburn until 2015. 

    She starred in TV programmes and films including Sunday Bloody Sunday and Elizabeth R up until her election to parliament in 1992. 

    She won two academy awards for her work in Women in Love and A Touch of Class

    Ms Jackson returned to acting after retiring from politics, and is appearing in Shakespeare's King Lear at the Old Vic, external this autumn. 

    Gyles Brandreth with Scott MIlls

    Gyles Brandreth was a regular on TV and radio in the 1970s and 1980s before becoming the Conservative MP for Chester from 1992 to 1997. 

    Since then he has regularly featured on Radio 4's Just a Minute, as well as BBC TV's Have I got News for You and QI.

     Mr Brandreth has also become a pantomime star, appearing on stage in the West End touring the UK.

    Earlier this year he toured the UK with his one-man show Word Power, finishing in June.
