    House of Commons
    Parliament

Johnny Mercer asked a question about members of the UK armed forces being placed under surveillance by the Iraq Historical Allegations team.

He said: "How can we close the gap between what we say and how it actually feels for our servicemen and women?"

Mrs May said she hoped Mr Mercer agreed that "credible allegations" should be investigated, but that she was very conscious servicemen and women should have the support they need.

  2. Brexit impact on universitiespublished at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2016

    House of Commons
    Parliament

The session is now over, but we'll keep working our way through some of the other subjects raised towards the end of the exchanges. Stephen Gethins asked what guarantees the prime minister could make over research funding and freedom of movement for academics up to 2020 to reassure the University of St Andrews in his constituency.

The Prime Minister responded saying the government had already given guarantees over research funding until 2020.

Mrs May said universities were already able to recruit "the brightest and the best" from outside the EU.

The PM then repeated her earlier line that the SNP campaigned to leave the EU, which caused further outrage among the Scottish nationalists.

The PM agrees - in response to a question from Conservative MP Julian Lewis - that the BBC World Service carries out an important role bringing independent news to "some of the most remote parts of the world" and welcomes its expansion.

Theresa May says the government is investing £289 million over the next four years to support the World Service.

Mr Lewis goes on to raise concerns about cuts to the BBC Monitoring service which, he says, intelligence services and departments depend. Mrs May says that as part of the BBC charter renewal process there will be changes that will lead to an improved service from BBC Monitoring for the government.

  5. Social immobility?published at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2016

    House of Commons
    Parliament

Lucy Powell says social mobility indicators are "all going backwards" under the Prime Minister's watch. When will the PM improve social mobility instead of making the education system more elite, she asks?

Theresa May says that Social Mobility Commission figures show more "working class youngsters" are benefiting from higher education than ever before.

She also says the government has invested heavily in early years education, and refers to a pro-grammar schools report that says they could benefit working class areas.

    Richard Bacon MPImage source, HoC

Richard Bacon asks the prime minister what reassurance she can offer "fat, middle aged white men" that they have not been left behind, in the wake of Donald Trump's election victory.

Theresa May bats him off with a joke, offering him the chance to "come up and see" her some time.

  15. SNP and PM clash over single marketpublished at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2016

    House of Commons
    Parliament

The unsolicited memo prepared by Deloitte about the government's approach to Brexit provoked a furious reaction from Downing Street, so Theresa May might not be too happy that it's just been raised for the second time in PMQs, this time by the SNP's Angus Robertson.

There will be no running commentary, the PM reminds him.

Will the UK leave the customs union, Mr Robertson then asks.

Mrs May says this is not a "binary" issue, claiming Mr Robertson campaigned for Scotland to leave the single market ahead of the 2014 independence referendum.

This sparks uproar in the Commons, with John Bercow bellowing "ORDER!" to calm things down.

**** Here's a handy summary of the possible trading models for the UK after Brexit
