  2. Where is Michael Gove?published at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    Michael Gove

We've yet to see Michael Gove today.

The environment secretary has only been in his post since July, and has made quite an impact since returning to the cabinet, so a move would seem pretty unlikely but let's wait and see.

  4. Lib Dems: This is the 'nothing has changed' reshufflepublished at 18:10 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

The reshuffle is far from over but it is already been variously dismissed as "the night of the plastic knives" and the "nothing has changed" shake-up.

For the Lib Dems, Alistair Carmichael claims the prime minister has failed to transform the substance or perception of the government.

    Quote Message

We still have a hapless prime minister and an incompetent government, dragging the country towards a destructive Brexit. Theresa May wanted to reassert her authority but has come out of this looking weaker than ever.”

    Alistair Carmichael

And the party's former health spokesman Norman Lamb has questioned whether the addition of social care to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt's job title is anything "more than window dressing".

    Quote Message

The Department of Health has always had policy responsibility for social care. If they are not doing anything about the funding of social care then nothing has changed in substance."

  5. Will Liam Fox stay at international trade?published at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    Liam Fox

International Trade Secretary Liam Fox, one of the most passionate Brexiteers in the cabinet, has arrived at No 10 clutching his mobile phone.

As protocol dictates, he will have to hand that in before he meets the prime minister to discuss his future.

  6. Matt Hancock now in No 10published at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

We still haven't heard who will get the education brief.

But Karen Bradley's move to Northern Ireland frees up the job of secretary of state for culture, media, digital and sport.

Matthew Hancock, a digital minister with a longstanding interest in that portfolio, has just entered No 10. Could he be getting that job?

The ally of former Chancellor George Osborne, with whom Theresa May's relations are to put it mildly rather frosty. But that might not stop him from getting his first cabinet job.

  7. Bradley named Northern Ireland secretarypublished at 17:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

Karen Bradley is the new Northern Ireland secretary, moving from culture. She is a close ally of Theresa May and, given the fragile political situation in Northern Ireland and the Brexit border deal to be done, it is going to be quite a change.

  12. Assessing the social care changepublished at 17:43 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    Hugh Pym
    BBC News Health Editor

There have been increasing calls for an integration of health and social care in England - the two areas are already combined in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Cuts in social care funding in England have been blamed by some as a factor in the pressures on the NHS - with delays discharging medically fit patients from hospital caused by problems finding social care provision.

The Department of Health already has responsibility for social care - but it is run by local authorities, partly paid for by council tax, and the central Whitehall grant comes through the Department for Communities and Local Government. It is not clear whether that grant will now move across to the rebranded Department of Health and Social Care.

A Government policy paper on social care, known as a Green Paper, is due next summer - and it seems likely that Jeremy Hunt will now play a central role in preparing that document. The Royal College of GPs said it supported the bringing together of health and social care into the portfolio of one minister as what happened to patients in the NHS was profoundly impacted by the state of social care.

  16. Justine Greening arrives at No 10published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

Education Secretary Justine Greening is now in No 10.

Her ministerial car pulled up directly outside the front door and she didn't look back at the waiting cameras.

There has been speculation about her future over the weekend but, it has to be said, a lot of the speculation about this reshuffle has, so far, not really materialised, so we will have to wait and see.

  17. David Gauke moves from DWP to Justicepublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

Finally we have a change. David Gauke is moving from Work and Pensions to Justice and will also become Lord Chancellor, with responsibility for the judiciary. Mr Gauke is a qualified solicitor.

  19. Lidington to deputise for May at PMQspublished at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    David LiddingtonImage source, PA

David Lidington will be first choice to deputise for Theresa May at Prime Minister's Questions in the Commons when she is unable to attend.

The PM's spokesman said the new Cabinet Office minister will chair "a significant number" of the influential cabinet committees which were previously the responsibility of Damian Green, including several which deal with aspects of Brexit.

Asked why he had not been given his predecessor's title of first secretary of state, the spokesman said: "First secretary of state is a title which the prime minister chooses when to use and when not to use."
