  1. Could EU negotiators amend the agreement?published at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2018

    Brussels reporter

The BBC's Brussels reporter Adam Fleming says it is EU policy not to get involved in the proceedings happening in the UK at the moment.

He says Chancellor Merkel has said she thinks the deal on the table "cannot be reopened", which has been echoed by senior officials in Brussels.

Adam Fleming suggests many officials in Brussels believe the EU has already "bent over backwards".

He says negotiations on the text of the agreement are still going in Brussels, and if the UK government remains so fragmented, EU officials could make more tweaks to the text before it is published.

Austria fully backs the draft Brexit withdrawal deal, the country's chancellor Sebastian Kurz has said.

Speaking at his arrival at the Economic and Financial Affairs Council on Friday morning, Mr Kurtz expressed hope the UK parliament would approve the deal.

He said: "It’s a good deal for both sides; nobody has been tricked.

"This deal avoids a hard Brexit. It therefore helps us in Europe and it helps Great Britain even more because a hard Brexit would hit Great Britain even harder."

  10. What's the rest of the world's take on events?published at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2018

Italian papers have compared the recent UK ministerial resignations over Brexit to an earthquake or tsunami.

One publication suggested a second Brexit referendum as a way out of the current deadlock while another said it was too late.

Repubblica said Brexit has become "positional warfare, a psychological war of attrition", and says "in this collective earthquake everything may tumble down."

Meanwhile, Iran's state run news channel has called the draft Brexit agreement "the worst deal in Britain's history."

  11. Housing Secretary: Deal does not have 'wriggle room' some suggestpublished at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2018

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

Speaking on the Today programme, Housing Secretary James Brokenshire says "the focus is getting on with the job around this agreement - the public want us to do just that, to get on with the task of delivering Brexit, which is what this deal does."

Mr Brokenshire says "the deal strikes a fair balance - yes, there are compromises that are there, but there is no sense that there will be anything more that can be gained through further negotiation.

"Indeed it may well take us backwards if you were to try and do that."

James Brokenshire adds that he doesn't believe the deal could be "tweaked" and says the government are now "fleshing out the continuing relationship".

He says there is not the "wriggle room" in the deal that some people are suggesting.

On Michael Gove, James Brokenshire said he wants "to see him continuing with that role and I wish him well for the future in dealing with that."

  12. Would Labour support a 'People's Vote'?published at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2018

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

    John McDonnell

A number of Labour MPs spoke out in support of a so-called 'People's Vote' on the final Brexit deal in the House of Commons yesterday.

Pressed on BBC Radio 4's Today programme whether he backed these calls, Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell argued these MPs were "properly reflecting Labour Party policy".

He told the programme: “We want to respect the referendum.

"If we can’t get a deal that does respect that and at the same time protects jobs and the economy, our priority is for a general election but if we can’t get that, yes a ‘People’s Vote’ remains on the table”.
