    Rob Watson, the BBC World Service's political correspondent, said the PM's performance during her speech was "remarkable" after the events of today - which he said also included birthday drinks for Prince Charles 70th birthday.

    Conservative MP and Father of the House Ken Clarke says "there is absolutely no point in pursuing the very hardline Brexit."

    He says Theresa May is "determined" but is "going to have to be a bit more pragmatic".

    Mr Clarke says "the vast majority of people want to keep our borders open for trade" and suggests "a soft Brexit is the deal that has the best chance of getting through."

    He adds that there "is still an awful lot to do" thanks to "a lot of time wasted pursuing the line of the hard right".

    Mr Clarke says "it is in the interests of sensible people on both sides of the Channel to keep as much of the relationship in tact as possible."

    "The deal is credible as it's in our interests and of the EU 27."

  14. French minister: Brexit 'not a done deal'published at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2018

    French finance minister Bruno Le Maire has warned the draft agreement is "not a done deal" due to the many obstacles facing Theresa May, in an interview with broadcaster France 2.

    The minister also warned that the UK must respect EU rules once it has left.

    "We must make sure the tax rules, the environment norms that are valid within the single market are respected by the UK," he said. "Let's not rush into it."

    That said, Mr Le Maire said the draft agreement was "good news for the French economy".

    On the other side of the Channel, EU leaders are dismissing talk of reopening the Brexit negotiations.

    German Chancellor Angela Merkel said there was "no chance" of restarting discussions while French PM Édouard Philippe said there was a need to prepare for a no-deal because of UK "uncertainty".
