    BBC Radio 5 live

    Lee RowleyImage source, UK Parliament

Conservative MP for North East Derbyshire, Lee Rowley, tells BBC Radio 5 live that he has a "huge amount of time and respect for the prime minister," but he says something needs to change:

"The reality is that stamina isn’t a strategy and it’s not working, and when you’re in a hole you have two choices - you either get out of the hole or you keep digging.

"I’m choosing to get out of the hole and I hope my colleagues are going to do the same today."

He adds: "The one way I know we’re not going to sort Brexit is by keeping flogging a dead horse and a deal that clearly isn’t going to get through Parliament."

  7. No confidence vote is a 'tantrum' - Hoarepublished at 10:10 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2018

    BBC News Channel

    Simon Hoare

Simon Hoare, Conservative MP and parliamentary private secretary to the home secretary, tells the BBC News Channel the triggering of a no confidence ballot is like a "toddler's tantrum".

"You can change the leader every day between now and New Year's Eve. It wouldn't change the Parliamentary arithmetic," he says.

He says the majority of MPs want to ensure the UK respects the referendum result but doesn't leave the EU without a deal.

And he also criticises the role of the Democratic Unionist Party, who are refusing to support Theresa May's withdrawal agreement because of their opposition to the Northern Ireland backstop.

He says of the DUP's role in supporting the government in Parliament: "It's an important position but it's not a blackmail chip. The Tory Party is not going to be held to ransom."
