    Former contender Matt Hancock, who dropped out of the race last week and now backs Boris Johnson, says his man is "best placed" to deliver a "different" Brexit deal.

    He says he strongly agrees with Mr Johnson on the need to rengotiate the deal with the EU to give it a chance of getting through Parliament.

    He says Mr Johnson is a "unifier" in the Conservative Party who "brings people together".

    Candidates in the BBC debate

    After tonight's debate, the remaining candidates don't have long to garner more support.

    Ballots will be held tomorrow afternoon and again on Thursday, where Conservative MPs will whittle the list down until two candidates remain.

    Members of the wider Conservative Party will then get a chance to vote for their preferred choice.

    The result of that will determine who is the next leader of the party - and the country.

    Home Office Minister Victoria Atkins, who is backing fifth-placed Sajid Javid, says there is "all to play for" after the debate tonight.

    She also says her candidate has "cut through" - and managed to achieve "unity" among the other contenders on various issues.

    In fact, she says Mr Javid's team are now totting up how many times the others agreed with his position (could a social media post be in the pipeline?).

    Next to defend their preferred candidate is Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd, who is backing Jeremy Hunt.

    She says she thought Mr Hunt struck the right balance between "facing up to the difficult challenges ahead" and protecting people's jobs.

    She adds that despite her "frank" opposition to a no-deal Brexit, Mr Hunt would consider it.

    Well, the debate's over and supporters of the candidates now step up to defend and champion their favourites' performance under the studio lights.

    First up is Nicky Morgan, who is backing Michael Gove. She says he was the "the one person who cut through the noise" on Brexit.

    She says that as environment secretary, Mr Gove "knows" the impact that a no-deal Brexit would have, which is why he "doesn't want it to happen".

    She says his pledge to restore power-sharing in Northern Ireland is an "incredibly important" part of his plan.
