That hour seemed to fly by. The questioners were brilliant, I thought. I know from experience that going on telly and being fluent isn't easy - let alone when you don't do it regularly and you're asking questions of very senior politicians on prime time. And it is even harder when you are not in the same room, you're staring into a funny looking camera and you can't see the people you are talking to. Bravo to them I say.

Jeremy Hunt says there shouldn't be another election until Brexit has been delivered.

Rory Stewart says there shouldn't be one until the Tories have "regained trust".

Sajid Javid strikes a similar tone, saying the "most important thing" is that the Conservative Party unites to deliver Brexit before there is another election.

  8. General election?published at 20:58 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

    Chris Mason
    Political Correspondent

There isn't exactly enthusiasm for one any time soon from any of the wannabes. No surprise given how the Conservatives were tonked in the local and European Parliament elections.

The final question is from Aman in London, who asks the candidates when they would be prepared to call a general election - given the winner of this contest will get into Downing Street without one.

Jeremy Hunt says the issue of climate change is a "fundamental matter of trust" between younger and older generations.

He says he is already committed to the current 2050 target - and on trying to do it faster, he won't commit but says it's right that the questioner has challenged them all to go further.

  15. Will Johnson rule out Heathrow expansion?published at 20:56 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

    Chris Mason

The race frontrunner says he still has "grave reservations" and "grave concerns." But will he rule out Heathrow expansion? He ducks answering that directly.

  16. Johnson: I have 'grave reservations' about Heathrow expansionpublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

Mr Johnson answers the climate question in part by focusing on Heathrow. He says: "I continue to have grave reservations about Heathrow runway three."

Noise pollution and air pollution are his biggest worries, he adds.

More broadly, he tells the questioner he will put climate change "at the centre of my programme".

  19. Council funding explainedpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

    Chris Mason
    Political Correspondent

My colleague @alexforsythBBC points out that while Sajid Javid claims he increased council spending power as minister for local government, be aware that’s very different to grant funding which has steadily reduced since 2010.

Spending power has increased year on year since 2015/16... that takes into account councils’ ability to raise council tax and some councils who can keep hold of more business rates.

  20. Javid vs Stewartpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

    Chris Mason
    Political Correspondent

... sitting next to each other, Mr Javid asking questions directly of Mr Stewart. On the face of it, they are two most vulnerable to dropping out of the contest tomorrow...so the battle is intense.
