  9. Fixed-term Parliaments Actpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 4 September 2019

A reminder for you. Boris Johnson might want an election but he can't just have one. The Fixed-term Parliament Act - introduced under the coalition government and designed to make Westminster a more stable place, believe it or not - states that he needs two-thirds of all MPs to back that call.

There are other ways to get to an election, but this is the one the PM is starting with and for it to pass he would need Labour's support.

It doesn't look like, at this stage anyway, he's going to get it.

He also says his party is ready for an election. "We stand ready to bring down the Tory government," he says.

  13. 'Let him stew' strategypublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 4 September 2019

Further to that last entry on Labour's potential election strategy, Sky's political editor explains more.
