  13. Brexiteers think no-deal 'is in their grasp'published at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2019

    BBC News Channel

BBC political correspondent Nick Eardley says the prime minister needs to win over Conservative Brexiteers but "there doesn't seem to be a great mood" from them to move over.

Many Brexiteers think no-deal is in their grasp now as the prime minister has ruled out a longer extension, he adds.

The DUP are also crucial, Nick says, "but again they are saying they will not be bullied".

"There is little sign that a breakthrough is imminent," he says.

The momentum is changing quickly, Nick adds, "but as things stand things do not look good for Theresa May".

    BBC News Channel

BBC Europe correspondent Damian Grammaticas says it will be important to pay attention to the "mood music" at the summit.

"We know EU leaders are prepared to grant a short extension if Parliament passes the deal," he says.

"But what if Parliament doesn't pass the deal?

"Will what Theresa May has said make them more positively inclined towards a longer extension?

"That will inform their actions in the next few days."

  20. 'A collective sense of anxiety among MPs'published at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2019

    Chris Mason
    Political Correspondent

BBC political correspondent Chris Mason says "there is a collective sense of anxiety among MPs regardless of their perspective.

"There is the sense that next week they will have to make some pretty profound decisions - whether that is changing the law so that Brexit doesn't happen or accepting that a no deal outcome is a reality.

"At the moment there just simply are not the numbers for the prime minister's deal to pass.

"Some MPs who had changed their mind to support her deal are going wobbly again.

"The statement from the prime minister doesn't seem to have won anyone round and absolutely angered others."
