This morning I attended a wonderful community event at Ullapool High School, which gave families, care home residents, war veterans and a choir the chance to experience the baton relay.

One woman told me she couldn't see the need for so many police runners: "We're a close-knit community here, no-one would even think to cause any trouble.

"We're the sort of place where people leave their homes and cars unlocked."

The choir, Three sheets to the wind, sang a selection of songs including The Beatles' classic Hey Jude.
