The site in Drumnadrochit closed on Friday in line with efforts to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Mr Bremner said if the Loch Ness Monster could avoid social contact for centuries, the centre could manage to do the same for a "few weeks".

  4. Air quality improves in most polluted streetspublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2020

Air quality on some of Scotland's most polluted streets have seen some improvements in recent days.

The lockdown means fewer people are travelling which has led to a reduction of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels.

At 08:00 this morning, NO2 levels on Nicolson Street in Edinburgh were 26 micrograms per cubic metre - down from an average of 48.81 in 2019.

On Hope Street in Glasgow, NO2 levels were 65 micrograms per cubic metre this morning - higher than the 2019 average of 55.63 but below the 73 micrograms per cubic metre at the same time a month ago.

  6. Self employed need 'something big and pretty comprehensive'published at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2020

    David Porter
    BBC Scotland Westminster editor

We think that tomorrow Chancellor Rishi Sunak will come forward with measures to help the self employed.

There's something like five million people who are self employed or on zero hours contracts. If they don't work, they don't get paid - and the fear is some of them are going into work when they know they are not well.

The chancellor has been splurging huge sums of cash since his budget two weeks ago. He has to do something big and pretty comprehensive for the self employed.

  8. Trailer of beer worth £150,000 to meet demand stolenpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2020

A trailer load of beer worth £150,000 from Aberdeenshire-based BrewDog was stolen as it headed to meet increased demand at an online distribution centre.

The supplies from the company brewery in Ellon were stolen from the Moto Lymm services in Cheshire on Tuesday morning.

Online demand has increased amid the impact of coronavirus on shopping habits.

BrewDog co-founder James Watt had tweeted news of the theft, and the company later said the value of the stolen goods was in the region of £150,000. The vehicle involved was a plain navy blue curtain-sided trailer which was not branded. Cheshire Constabulary appealed for information.

Vehicles have been queuing early for CalMac's new 15:00 Stornoway-Ullapool sailing.

CalMac has withdrawn two sailings on the route and delayed two others by an hour due to operational reasons related to the coronavirus.

The queue for Wednesday's 15:00 sailing was described as being like those seen during the peak summer tourism season.

But there were also far less busier scenes in Stornoway in Lewis, including a near-deserted Sandwick Road, the main artery road through the town.

  17. Government and unions sign fair work statementpublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 25 March 2020

The Scottish government and trade unions have signed a joint statement on fair working practices, external during the coronavirus crisis, the first minister announced earlier.

It urges employers to support their workers in following the latest health protection advice and to pay those who are sick or self-isolating.

The agreement follows concerns that some employers were encouraging their staff to go into work despite the lockdown implemented across the UK.

Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "Employers must allow their staff to follow medical advice to self-isolate or isolate with their households. Workers should never feel pressured to breach that advice."
