BBC Scotland told how the 27-year-old medic and husband Paul Colebourn had been desperate to get home from New Zealand to help.

The pair eventually found a flight back to the UK and are now in a two-week, precautionary isolation period.

Dr Marshall told Radio Scotland’s Lunchtime Live show: "I’m going to get in touch with lots of different health boards to say I am here and willing to work, where do you need me."

Screening is for people without symptoms. It is important that if you are worried about any possible bowel cancer symptoms you still contact your GP. GPs are being asked to increase their use of phone and video consulting so people don’t need to go into the surgery.

Loganair should receive support for its lifeline air services, the Highlands and Islands regional director of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry has said.

Fraser Grieve says island communities rely on the flights for supplies.

Loganair's boss Jonathan Hinkles has said the company, the UK's largest regional airline, plans to ask for government help to get through the coronavirus pandemic.

Loganair has had to ground half of its fleet and slash its flying schedule, putting its entire operation in jeopardy.

Mr Grieve told BBC Radio Scotland: "People in those communities need to have the confidence that these links will remain.

"They are vital in terms of supplies to communities and we really do need to make sure they (Loganair) are supported given their unique role within the UK aviation industry."

  12. Analysis: How the NHS is preparing for the peakpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 30 March 2020

    Lisa Summers
    BBC Scotland Health Correspondent

Two weeks before the expected peak in the virus, NHS Scotland is getting ready.

They are freeing up staff for the frontline. That lies behind today’s decision to suspend screening programmes.

This will be worrying for some patients and it’s a difficult balancing act. Contact with health professionals could spread the disease further but could also store up problems for the future.

The decision to announce the SEC in Glasgow as the site of a temporary hospital is also getting more capacity into the system to deal with the coming peak in infections.

It’s a complex exercise as it’s important to keep Covid-19 patients away from others to prevent cross-infection.

Within a fortnight the new hospital could be providing 300 extra beds and this could eventually reach 1,000 beds. The Scottish Government say they are making the decision to act now, even while hoping they won’t need to use it.

Plans to develop a huge oil field in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) have been postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Siccar Point Energy and joint venture partner Shell UK were due to proceed to a final investment decision (FID) on the Cambo field 77 miles north west of Shetland in the third quarter of this year.

But the companies have pushed that back to the second half of next year, subject to regulatory approval.

In a statement, they said the move was "in light of the unprecedented worldwide macroeconomic dislocation resulting from Covid-19".Cambo is one of the largest undeveloped fields in the UKCS. According to Aberdeen-based Siccar Point, it has more than 800 million barrels of oil in place.
