    The first minister says there is no legal limit in how far you can travel to meet another household, but she asks people to use their judgement.

    For example do not go so far that you would have to use someone else's bathroom she explains.

    Ms Sturgeon points out that if you go inside a house or share items or do not observe the 2m distancing rule, then you create an opportunity for the virus to spread.

    The first minister points out no changes are risk free but she wants to reassure that "the ground beneath our feet is as solid as possible".

    Ms Sturgeon urges people to keep their reunions with other households to less than eight people.

    You should not meet with more than one household at a time, says the first minister.

    "While this will not be the law, we also strongly recommend you don't meet with more than one other household per day."

    She adds please remember we should be meeting far fewer people than in normal times.

    The first minister says before you meet up with people you should think and read the guidance:

    • stay outdoors 2m away from people from other households
    • avoid touching the same surfaces as them
    • for example if at a picnic bring your own food, plates and cutlery, do not share these things
    • don't go indoors

    The first minister confirms changes to the rules about meeting socially.

    The first minister says people shielding are now well into their third month of not being able to leave home at all.

    Ms Sturgeon assures them there will be more information and guidance for those shielding in the next couple of weeks.

    She insists the government will be trying to move to less of a blanket approach where individual circumstances are more reflected.

    The first minister says that from tomorrow:

    • you can play golf, tennis, bowls and fishing
    • sit and sunbathe in parks
    • travel, preferably by walking or cycling, for recreation nearby where you live, but avoid public transport
    • strong advice is not to travel more than five miles for recreation and leisure
    • don't go to islands unless for essential reasons

    The first minister says from Monday teachers and staff can return to schools to prepare for their reopening.

    From next Wednesday childcare will be available to more people, for example vulnerable children and the children of key workers.

    Childminding services and fully outdoor nursery provision can start to reopen next Wednesday too, with guidance for child minders being issued from Monday.

    Respite care, children's hearings and some key health programmes will also restart with details of the timing to come.

    • the construction industry can start site preparation in the first phase of its restart plan
    • from tomorrow garden centres and plants nurseries can reopen some services

    Nicola Sturgeon says the launch today of Test and Protect bolsters her confidence in the decision to ease certain restrictions.

    Test and Protect is Scotland's plan for activating the new phase of the Covid-19 response, which is the "test, trace, isolate, support" strategy.

    This is how it will affect us as the easing of lockdown restrictions begin.

    The first minister says: "We can now move into phase one of our four-phase route map out of lockdown."

    The Scottish government has identified four phases for easing the restrictions, external:

    Phase 1:Virus not yet contained but cases are falling. From after 28 May you should be able to meet another household outside in small numbers.

    Sunbathing is allowed, along with some outdoor activities such as golf and fishing.

    Garden centres and drive-through takeaways can reopen, some outdoor work can resume, and childminding services can begin.

    The first minister says the latest review period ends today and she confirms:

    • the R number remains in a range of 0.7 to 1
    • government reasonably confident R number has been below one for a period of three weeks
    • the prevalence of the virus is reducing
    • 19,000 infection cases in Scotland
    • the number of patients in intensive care has fallen by 80% since the peak
    • number of new hospital admissions has fallen by more than 80%
    • deaths have declined for four consecutive weeks.

  19. Further 12 deaths from Covid-19published at 12:35 British Summer Time 28 May 2020

    Nicola Sturgeon confirms 15,288 people have now tested positive for Covid-19, an increase of 48 from yesterday.

    1,238 patients are in hospital with a suspected or confirmed case (down nine), with 37 patients being treated in intensive care (down one).

    3,635 people have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for the virus since 5 March.

    A further 12 people who tested positive have died, taking the total to 2,316 deaths in Scotland by that measure.

    The first minister sends condolences for those who have lost a loved one and thanks frontline workers.

    She says the figures show a positive trend, but "progress remains fragile".

    The first minister begins: "Today as you're probably anticipating, I will confirm some careful and cautious changes to the lockdown regulations."

    Ms Sturgeon says this is only possible because progress has been made in suppressing the virus and that is down "entirely to the sacrifices all of you have made".
