    FM

The first minister confirms the total number of deaths with a confirmed or presumed link to Covid has reached 4,216.

National Records of Scotland (NRS) figures indicate three people died in the week ending 16 August.

Ms Sturgeon says these three deaths represents a decrease of two from the previous week and is the lowest weekly figure since the pandemic began.

The figures are higher than the daily figure announced by Nicola Sturgeon because they include all cases where Covid-19 is mentioned on a death certificate, even if the patient had not been tested.

  5. Daily figures show 50 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotlandpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 19 August 2020

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirms 19,457 people now have tested positive for Covid-19, an increase of 50 from yesterday.

The provisional information shows 15 of the 50 new cases are in Grampian, 10 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, three in Lanarkshire and 12 in Tayside, where there are known clusters.

248 patients are in hospital with confirmed case (down six), with two being treated in intensive care (down one).

No deaths were registered in the last 24 hours of people who tested positive over the previous 28 days

The review of local lockdown restrictions in Aberdeen is expected to dominate today's cornavirus briefing.

Dozens of hospitality businesses have now come together to form a new orgnaisation to ensure all pubs and restaurants have the right measures in place to keep customers safe.

Councillor Marie Boulton is convener of the Licensing Board in the city and a member of the Independent Alliance Group: "They recognise that they want out of lockdown and want to stay out of lockdown.

"And the only way they are going to do it is to tighten their measures and to work together.

"People have been caught, the premises in particular, maybe off guard.

"I think they had recognised people were keen to come.

"The volume has overwhelmed them more than they expected."

Adrian Gomes, owner of the city's Tippling House bar, told Radio Scotland the lockdown in Aberdeen has been a "bit harsh"

"We've been closed the last couple of weeks and nothing kind of going on really.

"We're kind of at square one really which is quite annoying but I do understand, I've always been a supporter of the measures in place to control coronavirus and get past this."

He however adds: "Aberdeen was maybe made an example of.

"I think a lockdown was a bit harsh."

Mr Gomes said perhaps instead of a lockdown measures could have been put in place like banning queues and giving police more powers to shut venues not playing ball.
