Ms Sturgeon turns to the severe weather conditions.

"Vaccinations are proceeding as planned today," continues the first minister.

She says there are no reports of vaccination centres being closed.

However some people may feel they can't make their appointment due to the weather which may affect tomorrow's figures.

The message remains "please try and make your appointment today if you can", but if the weather makes that impossible you can rebook.

No-one will lose their vaccination opportunity due to the snow, Ms Sturgeon insists.

  2. Vaccination programme 'still on track' insists Sturgeonpublished at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2021

The first minister says everyone over 70 and who is clinically extremely vulnerable will be vaccinated by mid-February.

Ms Sturgeon explains the focus will then switch to second doses, requiring the conservation of vaccine supplies.

She says over the second part of February the supplies of vaccine coming in to Scotland are expected to "slightly dip".

This will be a UK-wide issue and will require a balance between first and second dose distribution.

The first minister insists Scotland is still on track to have vaccinated everyone on the JCVI priority list by the start of May.

Hotels are still unclear over their involvement in the Scottish government's plans to quarantine all international travellers.

The system of "managed quarantine" - which goes further than the four nations' "red list" approach - is due to come into force on Monday.

But no hotels have been able to confirm whether rooms have been booked.

The first minister said an update would be given on the matter in parliament on Tuesday.

The health board in the Borders says 23,000 people in the region have now received a first vaccine dose - with everyone aged over 80 offered a jab.

It also hopes to have offered vaccination to everyone in a second wave – including the over 65s – by 15 February.

Nicky Berry, director of nursing and operations, said: “This is a huge undertaking with extremely challenging timescales and we therefore ask the public to remain patient.

“It is important that people are aware that there will be variation throughout the Borders as practices and venues receive vaccine supplies and administer them to their local community.“
